Go to solution Solved by Sauron,

A 5400 rpm hdd in my book marks it as unusable.

Specs wise, this one is a lot better at just 80$ more on the same website. It even has an IPS screen and an SSD.

Dell Insprion 15 5576

Specs

AMD A10-9630P Processor 2.6GHz
AMD Radeon RX 460 4GB GDDR5
8GB DDR4-2400 RAM
1TB 5,400RPM Hard Drive
Microsoft Windows 10 Home 64-bit
2-in-1 Card Reader
10/100/1000 Network
1x1 802.11ac Wireless+Bluetooth 4.1
15.6" Full HD Anti-Glare LED-backlit Display

I was searching, for a decent gaming laptop to take on the go but didn't break the bank. I wanted a nice display, at least 15inches. atleast 8GB of Ram, Solid GPU. I searched Amazon, Newegg, and Microcenter, This was the best bang for buck budget laptop I could find.

I reallyyyy wanted one with atleast 120 or 240 GB size and HDD combo. I also wish the HDD was atleast 7,200RPM instead of 5,400. But I couldn't find anything better for the price. I just want others opinions on the laptop. Do you think it was a good deal or am I missing something and I could have gotten something much better for same price or perhaps around $100 more?

Take a look at the Dell Inspiron 5000 or 7000 Gaming series. It comes with a 1TB HDD, but you can easily swap it out with a SSD. This path is cheaper than getting it directly from Dell. The 7000 series comes with a Hybrid SSHD and has a starting price of $800. 5000 series comes in at $750.

Both have the following specs

  • Intel 7th gen i5 quad core
  • 8GB of ram
  • 1TB HDD
  • GTX1050 4GB GDDR5
  • 15.6" TN for 5000 series / IPS for 7000 series
  • 3x USB type A, and I think 1x HDMI, also ethernet
  • Windows 10 Home 64bit

The 5000 gaming can be found on Newegg. 7000 gaming is only from Dell

You can get a GTX 1050ti/1060 with a 7700HQ and a 1080p IPS display for ~$900 or so IIRC, am in Canada but I saw an Asus one for $1200 with those specs (CAD! So like $900 USD)

Ryzen 5 3600 stock | 2x16GB C13 3200MHz (AFR) | GTX 760 (Sold the VII)| ASUS Prime X570-P | 6TB WD Gold (128MB Cache, 2017)

Samsung 850 EVO 240 GB

138 is a good number.

Yeah $900 is too much. I wanted to spend no more than $700 tops (Including taxes) hence looking at laptops $650 and under. Actually just found a ASUS that would've been a better choice.

ASUS X550IU-WSFX 15.6"

You said $800 + $100 if it is much better xD

I am sorta in your boat too, $650 laptops or so (because $650 = $900 CAD! fuck the conversion rate, just make it more expensive)

I have found out that an ultrabook, believe it or not, has much better price/perf here, 1080p IPS with a i5 7200u and a 250GB SSD, Asus UX430UA, $900.

Yeah that is a lot better. I can just buy an external HDD if necessary. This is much better. Nice find. I may go swap this today

That laptop only has 1x USB 3 type A. Other 2 are only 2.0. And a single type C Gen 1. It does have better wifi than the Dell with 2x2 instead of 1x1.

Oh I'm sorry. I was just saying in general those specs are like impossible to find under $800, not that it was my budget. I could see how you got that assumption, my wording was a little confusing. But for $800, $900 may as well push for a desktop

I think the trade off of a slightly better CPU, GPU, and SSD as well as even slightly better wifi is better than another USB 3.0. It's a budget laptop so there is no way you will ever get everything you want. Gotta take the cons with the pros.
