2 different FE?

Hello all!

 

So I currently have a single 1080Ti Founders Edition from MSI in my computer. I was planning on buying a second one but the MSI is not avalaible on Newegg.ca anymore. So I was wondering if there would be any trouble buying the one from Asus, Zotac or any different company than MSI for the 1080ti fe?

Any 1080Ti will work. As long as you have the same core (i.e. 1080Ti), it doesn't matter.

Okay so even if it's not a FE it would work?

Those FE 1080s from different AIBs are literally just a normal Nvidia FE card, with a different name on the box (and sometimes maybe a sticker on the card). the hardware is identical -- get the cheapest FE you can find.

For optimal performance, you should grab a fan-cooled card like a FTW or SC to go beneath the FE.

I was planning on watercooling both my GPU in the near future!

Then you should go Nvidia reference design so that finding the blocks is easy.

Wouldn't you want the AIB card to be be on the top?

the top card will have terrible thermals anyway, so wouldn't it be better to get the beefier card in the top, so the thermals can be somewhat under control.

if so, then any card will work.

i'd personally get an FE, since it will just match the one you already have.

The reference will do better against resistance than a fan-cooled card so you want the FE to be above the fan-cooled. The FE should also take away more heat from the backplate in this config.
