Monitor the Bandwidth and Data Usage of Individual Devices

Le_haos

Hello Everyone,

I have a netgear r6400 with dd-wrt firmware. I want to monitor data usage of each device on the network. I was using QoS IP Connection Tracking / Bandwidth Monitor. It is really handy, but since it is no longer being updated, my router will random reboot from time to time, or the tool will show the data usage for each device are all 0. So is there another tool that I can use to replace it? I am also thinking about switching to openwrt or tomato. Do those firmwares also have tools that allow you to track data usage of each device?

Cheers

Ive seen people talk about using PFsense + ELK dashboard to do this. Might take some work to setup though.

If I had some extra money the cisco meraki would probably be the best.

Just curious why you need to track data that closely? Is it a business?

My neighbor was using my network because my Wi-Fi signal is actually stronger than his Wi-Fi at some of his rooms, so he ask me for the Wi-Fi password. I am really stupid at the time and give him the password. Now his family are all starting to use my network to stream movies because my internet speed is way faster than his. I confronted him, and he called me a liar. He wanted to see the evidence that his family are using a lot of bandwidth. I said fuck it and start researching into network monitoring. I present him the data report two days ago and change the Wi-Fi password. This actually turn out really well for me because I learned a lot of networking stuff while researching. Now I am testing many functions on my router that I have no idea about a few weeks ago.

Change your password. Tell them to purchase better internet. Don't let anyone outside your household use your internet.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.
