My vote also goes to wait. Not only for those two additional cores, but also for the fact that the Z270 platform is EOL and it will be replaced very soon with Z370 so you'd have no upgrade path whatsoever with the 7700K.

No, if they plan to release it so soon they wouldn't be quiet, they could have generated a lot of hype by telling people that they will release CL in a month or two, they are quiet because CL is too far, probably december-1Q 2018.They showed "October" in the background of that stream because they didn't sink as low as AMD to announce announcements, they might tell us something in October but not release anything.

I guess you could be right about intel & perhaps we gotta wait to see the full scenario.

Does anyone know if the 8th gen chips will support a z270 motherboard or will I have to wait and get a z370 motherboard

It most likely needs new chipsets, a leaked box photo shows this.

I'm in the same boat, but I already have a Z170 board. So I think I'm gonna get the 7700k

 

No one knows exactly when it will be released, and it's not fun to wait on new generations of hardware, so if you need (or really want) it, I'd say get the 7700k. You can always flip it with the Mobo after the 8th gen comes out. Or just go with Ryzen lol
