Forum name change???

hey guys, sorry if this isnt the right place but i didnt know where else to ask this question

i was just wondering of there was a way that i can change my display name?

You can only change your name if your current name contains personal information.

Basically, his name will be changed if approved by the mods/admins that can do it.

I don't want to be hey_yo_ anymore. Besides, the origin of my LTT handle can be deemed controversial by a few people

but with op's username I found his real name and where he attends school. That's a legit reason.

Name changes only happen if there's personal information in the name, or under very, very special circumstances.

The rule to not be able to change one's name is actually awful. Most usernames are used somewhere else online, so on here I'd say you have a 70% chance of finding their Skype, real name, Facebook etc.

 

If someone wants to change their name away from what it is for the reason nobody should stand in their way; it's a real security risk to have children on here who (through their usernames) their entire online presence can be found quickly and simply.

I agree to a point. I think for me when my 14-year-old self-signed up (however long ago it was), he didn't realise the security and privacy implications it had so when I got back into this forum I immediately realised how stupid I was. (so I procrastinated about it for a few more months) then I was annoyed and worried enough to ask

 

however, it does become also an issue of spam. people changing their online identity to get around rules or to make people confused on purpose or spamming the system etc. 

I think people should be able to change their names but have it filtered through the staff/admins/moderators first.

Even if you put it behind a contributor wall, you should be able to change.

It's worth reminding people that even if you do change your name, there is a good chance it won't do much good because:

1. It might still show up in internet history sites
2. Quotes will often still show your original name
3. People will remember your original name

etc.

Basically, it's important to just pick a good one from the start.
