Hey all! I'm almost ready to purchase my parts and put it all together, just have some last questions (this one and some more in Air Cooling)

My motherboard lists the factory-set speed on my chosen RAM (1866) as an overclock speed. Will the system probably be stable at 1866 or will I have to fiddle with the RAM speed/timings? I'd like to not have to mess with this to get my system running since I've never had to change memory settings before; I really have no idea at present how it works or how to not brick my system XP

So are you saying that the ram will work with little to no need for interface on my part?

It depends.. is your ram 1866 speed? if it's under or at 1866 speed you'll be fine, if it's over it should automatically clock it down if im not mistaken.

Ok, thanks. My ram is Ripjaws Z which does come at 1866. Would you recommend switching to ram that wouldn't be downclocked, or should I just stick with what I have now and overclock when I feel more confidant about it?

EDIT: Sorry, didn't see the "or at" in your post, my question is now pointless XP

If you bought an 1866MHz memory and you see that it automatically went 1866MHz, there's no problem :D

If you are going to use XMP then it'll be stable. Overclocking manually may result unstable situation and need for adjusting timings. But I would suggest either getting 1600MHz or going for 2133MHz if you want higher speed on RAM. Difference between 1866 and those under and over are so minimal.
