It will be fine, PCI-E is backwards compatible.

Edit: Dont know if I like the look of that PSU, may be a problem depending on what card you are buying (May be worth replacing for anything high end).

Please quote our replys so we get a notification and can reply easily. Never cheap out on a PSU, or I will come to watch the fireworks.

Im running a 1080 Ti on PCIe 2.0, its doing more than fine, from tests i have seen performance lost is minimal.

this, the 1080 ti is pretty much the only card you need to worry about not getting 16x 3.0

edit: and even then its not the end of the world

Why the fuck do you have 1080 ti and 2.0 motherboard?

then you will be perfectly fine :) it would be a problem if u had like 1440p monitor and you wanted to run games on ultra on 60+hz with gpu like 1080-1080ti

If your board has PCIE 2.0, I'd be worried about CPU bottlenecks more than that :P

*scratch that, just read that you're waiting for coffee lake*

Ofcourse its going to be a bottleneck by a 2nd gen CPU, but im not worried about that, since this card would have never runned more than a few months in this system.

1050 Ti and 1060 should be more than fine running on 2.0.

Its never recommended to run a 1080 Ti on 2.0, but just said it is possible. :)

Yes, and if you want to you can even take this to another extreme and install a PCIe x16 GPU in a PCIe 1.0 x1 slot.

Would it be stupid? Absolutely. Unless you want to mine bitcoins, don't do it.

PCI express generations and lanes are both forwards and backwards compatible. Meaning one can shove pcie x1 card into an x16 slot, and one can shove an x16 card into a x1 slot. PCIe generations are also backwards and forwards compatible. You could also install a PCIe 3.0 GPU in a gen 1.0 slot, or install a PCIe 1.0 device in a Gen 3 slot.

In other words, that PCIe 3.0 GPU could theoretically be installed form a PCIe x16 3.0 slot all the way down to a PCIe 1x 1.0 slot.

TLDR: if it fits it works.

You used too much smart words, but i wont try pcie 1.1 slot.. its a task for another day..
