Hello, I recently started to save money for a new pc and besides the money I saved, I have a ga-h170-d3h unused mobo and I'm wondering, it is worth to go with kabylake i5 7400 or to spend some more money on a new am4 mobo with ryzen 5 1600/1500x. The thing is if I stick with intel, I could buy a good graphics card too but if I go with ryzen, I'll need to use my old video card (hd 7750). I will use my PC for programing and editing and some gaming (Skyrim, League of legends, CS GO). (My budget is around 600$ and where I live prices are like 15-20% more expensive than in US)

Would be better here to get a Kaby i5, no point in buying a new motherboard just to use a older GPU and get worse performance overall.

Edit: Could sell the motherboard, and you do need to remember to update BIOS first to use Kaby.

Please quote our replys so we get a notification and can reply easily. Never cheap out on a PSU, or I will come to watch the fireworks.

I'm a big fan of Ryzen, if you were building a completely new PC I'd recommend going that route since you could benefit from the extra cores.

But since you're on a budget and already have a motherboard (it's not a bad one), you should probably go with Intel and upgrade your GPU. :-)

selling mobo could give you like $50, not worth it imo
