Budget Gaming: Ryzen 3 1200 or Intel Pentium G4560

Hey guys!

I'm helping my friend put together a budget gaming build.

He's most likely going to be playing e-sports titles but would like the ability to play AAA titles at decent settings 1080p 60hz. He doesn't stream/record just games.

Finally, he has reservations about OCing, thus I was leaning toward the Pentium.

Would this decision not be wise? Would a mild OC on the Ryzen be superior with 4 physical cores, even though they have equivalent logical cores?

Thanks for the help!

Yes, a G4560 would be fine. Costs cheaper too.

go with amd fx 9590 but you need a ac unit to cool it (JK) Go with amd Ryzen 3 1200. Its faster, Unlocked multiplier and is better price for performance.

R3 1200

if you run out of budget Pentium

If you want maximum performance inquire about the i3 7350K (not recommend though)

I have both of these in my office at the moment, the G4560 does fall behind the R3-1200 due to overclocking in games.  Very small margin and the G4560 will do the job if budget becomes an issue.  The video results can be seen here:

Imo get the ryzen 1200.

1. Your friend can oc it in future.

2. It's way better than the g4560

3. Your friend can upgrade the cpu in future whereas once coffee lake comes out, kaby lake is a dead platform.

depend on the budget, if its too tight then g4560 would be fine cause the board & processor will be comparatively cheaper & get gtx 1050ti atleast if not 1060, could be a nice combo . Get Ryzen 3 1200 with a b350 mobo if it fits in budget for better future proof but dont go down than 1050 ti in gpu whatever processor you choose :)

I definitely am not planning on going lower than 1050ti in either case. Would they both be about equal for games at the moment?

Thanks for the help!

The third point was not something I considered when weighing the options initially (RIP kaby lake 2017-2017)

If you say Atm, without overclocking ryzen 3, G4560 even does better in few & don't need faster Ram. but when ryzen 3 is overclocked & paired with 3000mhz faster ram (obviously requires more spending), it will surely have 10-12fps boost & clearly have edges over g4560 in most games.  well I hope you will make the right choice depend on your budget! goodluck mate.

If you can get the Pentium at the original price, get it, if you don't intend to overclock the r3 and pair it with at least 2666 MHz ram then don't bother with it, whatever you buy you will spend the same amount of money in the long run (h110 motherboard + Pentium + future motherboard and CPU will cost you the same as r3 +b350+another ryzen CPU).Ryzen 1400 also isnt worth it for gaming when you consider it's performance and price (neither is 1500x).
