Because they can.

Want to know which mobo to get?

Spoiler

Choose whatever you need. Any more, you're wasting your money. Any less, and you don't get the features you need.

Only you know what you need to do with your computer, so nobody's really qualified to answer this question except for you.

Companies like Apple buying loads of LPDDR3 and LPDDR4 for their phones and tables. New iphone coming up, new samsung phones coming up etc..

Memory companies moving production capacity from memory to NAND (the chips in SSDs) because they're more profitable.

Companies having contracts which forces manufacturers to give them memory and flash chips for the back to school laptops and desktop offers and for the winter sales (though a bit late now already, companies usually already made deals for these months ago)

Micron having to shut down one of their plants for a few days due to some problems...

hey another one of these threads

one of my quotes from a couple of the other threads on this

Quote

its been going up steadily since Q2 of 2016 due to supply issues.  NAND flash is getting more popular, so they are producing more of that and have taken focus away from producing DRAM.

Samsung factories have also seen power outages that have caused issues with production.

we should see prices start to stabilize around Q3 of 2017

EDIT: also smartphone manufacturers are taking a large portion of the supply as we're seeing an increase in smart phones with more ram these days.

The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again.
