That's a pretty good CPU from what I've heard, and this board supports DDR3 memory: https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/GA-Z170-HD3-DDR3-rev-10#ov

If you're switching from AMD to Intel, you will also need to purchase a motherboard to go with it too. That specific CPU only support DDR4 memory. Your best bet is to look for a cheap Intel Devil's Canyon processor and motherboard to go with your DDR3 RAM

Edit: I stand corrected @Crunchy Dragon

Don't get a 6600K. Get a Ryzen 5 1600 with a B350 board, it's much better ;)

IMO don't get an i5. Either go with a used i7 (or maybe an older i7) or buy a ryzen cpu. The 6600k will probably still bottleneck a 980ti in CPU intensive games so it's not a good value at all.

Why dictate your entire platform choice over a set of memory. Can't you just sell the platform and use the money to get something better? i5's are really bad value.

Or maybe get some i7 set used.

The ryzen 5 1600 is a great cpu. Get it! Just get a b350 board and some ddr4 ram and you're golden.

thanks mate :) witch board do u recmend ? as there is a few with that number

thanks

The Asus prime b350 plus board is really good. Any b350 board is good just don't get an msi one as they seem to have a lot of problems but IMO go Asus (great build quality).

ok boss thanks! this is the 1600 not the 1600x ! still ok to go with my 980ti ?

The 1600 and 1600X are basically the same CPU. 1600X is clocked a little higher out of the box but if you overclock the 1600 you can easily match it. And as a bonus the 1600 comes with the wraith stock cooler which is a pretty good cooler and it will allow you to do a modest overclock. Have fun upgrading! :)

thanks so much for ur help bud :) i have a corsair h80iv2 cooler .. i guess that would not fit the new motherbaord ? or do u think the stock one that comes with the cpu to be better choice! sorry about asking so much! just so much i need to know haha

It's no problem. You could get this http://www.corsair.com/en-us/am4-amd-retention-bracket-kit-for-hydro-series-coolers and it will be compatible with the new socket, otherwise it won't be. The stock cooler is good but not as good as a liquid cooler :D
