Some company or person is getting insane rich inserting graphics cards into slots.

It's the same for pretty much any installation service, you're paying for their time and possibly travelling (if done at your house).

I do my own installations where possible for everything, not just PC stuff... so washer/drier, cooker (unless gas), shower etc (unless lots of pipe work involved). Most things can be self taught unless needed quicker, or if you have to conform to some safety requirements, like if you need the work signed off on by an inspector.
