i have an old computer with an asus a8n sli motherboard. I would like to know if i could upgrade it with a mew chip or what. i primarily used it for 3d modeling but i am going to need to uprade to a new system since my current system is 32 bit and the new software will be 64 bit. i would like to keep my old system for something, but not sure what yet, any recomendations would be helpful. Thanks.

you could also just install a 64 bit os on that computer since it would support it

GD i was thinking about a render machine, would i need to upgrade the cpu or just let the graphics catds handle it and if so what are some choices?

Graphics card would be fine, upgrading won't be too important.  I don't know a lot about CAD, but in animation (which is very similar), Graphics are the most important but a good CPU helps too.  So, I wouldn't upgrade if I were you.
