I've had my computer for almost 3 years and recently it has emitted a sort of plastic burning smell. I had been running some intense games recently and thought it was the cpu or graphics card because I know does could get hot so I changed some settings on the fans so it was cooler but the smell still persisted( BTW this isn't just near the computer, it's the whole room). So after looking inside and seeing no damage to my suspects( motherboard, graphics card, and cpu) I went on the internet and found out it was probably the power supply and sure enough after looking in the place where the heat goes out(don't know what it's called. The place where the power supply connects to the wire that connects to the wall), I see some melted looking plastic things that I think shouldn't be like that. Guess that's what I get for having it so close to the floor and rarely cleaning it but it is my first time and I didn't know. After reading a bit more I realized that the smell can be toxic and shouldn't use the computer until it's fixed. So now I'm at the point where I need your help which is deciding what new power supply and also advice on what to do to prevent the same thing from happening in the future. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Also I'm 90% sure it's the power supply but the smell is so bad it stinks the whole computer so if there are any other possible sources I don't know about please tell. My computer has shutdown spontaneously after heavy load but can easily run after a quick wait.

Specs.

Motherboard - Z97 PC Mate

CPU- Intel Core i5 4690

GPU - Nvidia GeForce Gtx970

Power Supply- Corsair CX750M

PS. I'm currently looking at getting a EVGA Super Nova 550W G3, but advice/ opinions on it or other ones would be great but it has to be less than 100$

Well maybe take look at the PSU tier list here

And maybe go to Amazon or where you shop and try to get a different cheap PSU. Remember: Tier 1,2 and 3 is normally recommended for gaming builds. Hope this helps...
