So I JUST got a new 4TB hard drive to replace my failing seagate 2tb drive. After cloning it and fixing windows I noticed it makes a peculiar sound, not sure if it's grinding or what but it's kinda like an errr sound like really old hard drives make, typically when they start up, whenever it's reading/writing any data. Some people say it's normal and some say RMA it (i don't wanna go long without my HDD considering I just went 2 weeks without one)

I have ran various tests and they all say it's fine.

WD Blacks aren't the quietest things in the world. I wouldn't worry about it.

Is it a rather low pitched noise, like a DVD drive reading a disk? These noise are just the bearings of the motor having small gaps in them, allowing it to vibrate and make noise. It usually doesn't reduce the hard drive's lifespan since there are other things that kill a hard drive faster, so I wouldn't bother.

If you hearing a high pitched screeching noise, then it is bad.

its a 7200 rpm drive. its gonna go fast like sanic and make a lot of noise.

if it doesnt sound like its grinding, then you're fine.

It is kinda like a DVD reading a disk, an old dvd player technically, and it's not high pitched it's low pitched.
