7700K overclock?

So I'm helped my friend get computer parts and he got a i7 7700k, Hyper 212 EVO LED, asus strix z270h gaming, and EVGA 650 GQ. He is using the S340 non elite and has 2 case fans. What speed/voltage should I aim for? He is very new to this building the PC part so me and my friend are helping him. We aren't going for crazy overclocks, but a modest boost. Should I aim for 4.4 GHz @ 1.3volts or could I do better? I personally never overclocked but I've seen it done before on youtube lol. Thanks!

Why are you aiming for an overclock that's below the normal boost clock of the processor...? 

 

Also, if you want to overclock a 7700k, get a delidding tool on eBay and delid it. The stock thermal compound is so terrible, it makes it run 25 degrees hotter.

We don't want to delid it really, we just want a decent OC. We are planning to build it tomorrow. Any what should I aim for?

Try to aim for 4.7 4.8 ghz 

 

Basically check the temps and try to reach highest ghz for acceptable voltage and temps,

 

It's not really what should you aim for, but more, what the cpu and your cooling are capable of, they are all different.

You're not getting far past 4.5 without delidding. It'll run way too hot. Consider it- you should be able to push enough voltage to get to 5 GHz without overheating.

We don't know, you have to experiment. That's how OCing works, not all cpus are the same.

Aim for 4.8 GHz with a voltage up to 1.35. Try in increments and stress test to get the lowest amount of voltage possible for good temps. I'd test the water around 1.25-1.3.

 

Just look at the voltage I got for my chip. I'd say that's a pretty decent chip.

They are all different, check you tube tutorials for an average, and start from there then test the temps and the stability and raise voltage as needed as long as temps are good, when you hit too high temps then you can't raise the voltage anymore, then you try to reach the max frequency with stability

Not true without delid still should be able to reach 4.8 ish I think.

At what cost to temps? It's only a 212 LED too.

unfortunately, theres no "pre-settings" for overclocking a CPU, that is acutally why AUTO OC features are shitty options, they put wayy to much voltage and results in high temps for low boost

too many factors, you have to test it, overclocking takes a lot of patience

Purty sure should be able to do at least 4.7 ish, my 212 evo could push around 4.5 ish on my 6700k, purty sure something like that could push 4.7 ish on a 7700k.

They run quite hot, my 6700k runs @ 4.5 ghz, so thats only 300 mhz overclock over stock speed, and I get temps of 60-65 stock 100% load, and 75-80 after OC'd with 212 evo 100% load

 

When I play games, after huge session, temps never go higher then 74-75-76

But the 7700k's temps with the stock thermal compound are way worse than the 6700k. I won't be surprised if it ran cooler at the same clocks.

OCs higher and with less volts at the same time though.
