Google says the most likely cause is outdated or corrupt drivers and usually occurs when upgrading to windows 10 from an older OS.

I am on windows 7 and I have not updated my OS from any other version of windows

It could still be driver related. When was the last time the OS was installed? If there's drivers piled on top of old drivers it could cause problems.

My PC is near enough brand new, It was installed in october last year and I have not reinstalled since

Did you check your installed programs? Does it look like there's any duplicate drivers installed?
