Hi guys , i'm looking to up date my SSD (ocz agility 3 60 GB) had it for a while its used as a boot drive only for lack of space. Frankly i'm tired of having no space & routing every single thing to another drive when i install something; so i was wondering what would be the better choice Samsung 840 Pro 256GB or an OCZ Vector 256GB. Prices are more or less the same about £175-£180 from Amazon. ATM i'm leaning towards the vector but i have seen a few posts about about the vector being unstable and a few more than normal DOA's :s

so what are your thoughts guys ?

I would go with the Samsung. I can guarantee that the Samsung drive will last for years. I'v had really bad experiences with OCZ. Most of the drives I have bought are unusable because of bad and unstable firmware. And adding to the matter OCZ have one of the worst or even the worst return rate in the business.

That is my view on the situation, and what I would do, and is only my opinion.

The firmware problem is a thing of the past, i've got 3 ocz agility 3's that are 2 years old now and all working perfectly, i also have a samsung 830 drive running fine too.

As for the return rate, ocz was one of the most popular brands for ssd's awhile back, that's why they had such a higher return rate, Linus even talks about this exact same topic not so long ago in one of his vids.

As for which ssd to buy out of the 2 listed by the OP, i would say go with which ever is the cheapest, they are both top performing drives.

Thanks for the replies guys, I ended up going for the OCZ Vector, at the moment their the same price, and I'm in the same boat as ShadyHamster in that i have had a 60 GB agility 3 and i have not had a single issue and thus I'm quite happy with the brand. The question now is what to do with the 60GB OCZ Agility, i was thinking about putting it in an enclosure and using it as a giant flash drive LOL, but more likely as a caching drive for my HDD's. any thoughts , is any one doing this at the moment ?.

Something people forget quite often about brands is the sale numbers.

We saw a lot of reports on issue with firmware with drives such as Vertex 3 from OCZ. But if we think on how many drives did OCZ sold is pretty nuts. There is a ton of people with OCZ drives that had 0 issues with it.

I have a Vertez 3 Max Iops and I cant say I had a very easy set up since the drive would sleep but know that I have it all good its working just fine without any problem at all for the last year.

But if I was to buy a new one, I would really be wondering on the new Vector since its not Sandforce chipset anymore and that was the main issues on problems on older SSDs
