4x4 GB or 2x8 GB DDR4 RAM?

Given how expensive RAM is right now, I want to buy 8 GB, and add another 8 GB when prices decrease. Should I go for a single 8gb stick, or 2x4 gb? I've heard that dual channel gets more fps and reduces stutter, but having 4 sitcks of ram puts stress on the cpu's memory controller. What should I buy? I will be using it with a R5 1500x and Gigabyte AB350 Gaming 3. 16 gb is like $160 CAD rip.

it all depends on your motherboard. If you have support for dual or quad channel. If you have quad channel than best performance will be from 4x4gb and if you have dual channel than go 2x8gb.

Id go 2x4GB so when you need to upgrade there is empty slots for it.

Hm yes but would I suffer from fps drops/stuttering during the time that I only have 1 stick?

I don't think B350 supportsquad channel.

You might be losing some fps, but shouldn't get stuttering. 1 stick will work until you can upgrade.

you might lose some fps if you run out of ram

otherwise its a deficit of a fraction of a FPS probably, since the textures are in vram and not ram and whatever

138 is a good number.
