Hi, I am currently wanting to build a PC and have no idea as to what build to choose from. Any help would be appreciated as parts wise I have a small idea as to what I would like to use. Currently I have a few games on steam and once the PC is built, will invest in a few more AAA titles.

PC Build Option 1 - R5 1400, H100i v2, 16gb Corsair Vengeance 4x4gb, GTX 1070

PC Build Option 2 - i5 7600k, H100i v2, 16gb Corsair Vengeance 4x4gb, GTX 1070

My issue is, I don't know what I will be giving up if I choose to go with Ryzen. I am also happy to spend more on the Intel build than the AMD one. Currently I have no need for an SSD and will later on invest in some faster storage however, it is not necessary at the moment.

Thanks in advance for the help

EDIT: Please let me know if a 1080 would be a better idea that the 1070. Budget is £1500 but if it can go below £1000 that would be nice

EDIT: Had a rethink over what is necessary. Followed everyone's advice and went with a R5 1600 and will use the stock cooler only. Downgraded to GTX 1060 as it fits the current needs. Quite a few people suggested I go with higher RAM speeds so I have chosen a 2666 MHz LPX kit. Have decided to stick with Enthoo Evolv ATX as I like the design. So here is the revised parts list. Feel free to suggest anything that needs to be changed.

The Intel i5 7600k is a weaker chip compared to the R5 1600, so you actually lose out by going Intel at this price point and not the other way around. If you must have Intel, then go i7 7700k but even then, with the multitasking gains from R7 1700, it's really hard to recommend Intel right now, unless you are purely gaming.

What's your budget?

Get a R5 1600, blows i5 7600k out of the water.

There few things I would change

You don't need a water cooler air cooled would be fine given the limited budget. Ryzen comes with a good stock cooler already so no need to invest on one.

You don't need a platinum efficiency PSU, there are lots of good PSU for cheaper.

Get 2x8 stick, cheaper and leaves you 2 more space for upgradability

Get an SSD

X370 board is not needed, B350 is fine

Better than both the systems originally linked, R5 1600, slightly faster gpu, faster ram and also threw in an SSD. price is cheaper than both of the original builds.

Ok, will do. Thanks for the Advice

Yet to invest in one. For the time being will be using a 35" TV but am looking at a 1440p G-Sync monitor

Budget is £1500. Had thought about 7700k but I thought it was too expensive. Thanks for the advice about the Ryzen side. PC will be for gaming and for other tasks as I am going to be going to Uni soon so I need a PC for that

Ok, R5 1600 sounds like a good idea. For the Ryzen stock cooler, what Temps should I be expecting. Will look for Gold efficiency PSU. Agreed with RAM. What speed do you suggest though. Will start looking for a B350 board

find a board you like first, then start shopping for ram. I've been harping on this alot lately so i might as well toss my .001mBTC here as well:

Buy the specific SKU of RAM that is on the manufacturer's QVL that you want to run at. the faster, the better (when it comes to Ryzen).

Change the memory. Ryzen has a hard time running fast memory when running 4 dims.

Thanks for the suggestion. Will take into account that the stock cooler has headroom for overclocking. Will look at using 2 dimm's instead

Thanks. I just thought that the 1080ti would be a little overkill for 1440p. Then again will make it future proof.

It's honestly one of the main appeals of the r5 1600. I mean you can get a 100 dollar liquid cooler but I honestly think your money is better spent elsewhere. You can always get a liquid cooler later if you really want to overclock slightly more aggressively.

Sure it is overkill for 1400p 60Hz, but this is 144Hz, much smoother gameplay, a very aesthetic build, and 'future proof' to say the least.

The Intel is currently a better chip for gaming, but the R5 1600 is a great performer and has great long-term potential if more game developers start to utilize more cores and threads given the current CPU trend. The sweet spot for games that use more cores seems to be right around 6 cores, so the R5 might be a good pick. It'll also make your workstation more versatile overall.

I recommend going 2x8gb RAM instead of 4x4 to give yourself future upgradeability. The price should be about the same.

If you're planning to run 1440p with a high refresh rate, you should consider a 1080 instead of a 1070. I'm not sure if the 1070 pricing is screwed up in England, but here the difference is close enough that it's a viable upgrade even with a tight budget.

The SAMSUNG C32HG70 is one of the best 1440p gaming monitors on the market, but it's also pricey.
