If a fan is somewhat loose, is the problem 100% the fan's?

Ricardo56

Just wondering as I found a r9 380 for 150€ that has a slightly loose fan. Also, if the fan does go kaput will the gpu just thermal throttle or could it break as well?

Ryzen 5 3600 stock | 2x16GB C13 3200MHz (AFR) | GTX 760 (Sold the VII)| ASUS Prime X570-P | 6TB WD Gold (128MB Cache, 2017)

What do you mean "slightly loose"? is the fan just not screwed in correctly or did it come loose of the bearings?

I wouldn't say it came loose but it probably isn't too far from that. So yeah, the latter

Is the graphics card you are looking at is being sold online? If so, could you post the link?

idle? probably will heat up to 80c or so at max, with my 760 it doesn't throttle (fans on those are broke, just using windows regularly, chrome, youtube, no gaming)

under load? it'll throttle to hell but windows won't lag (desktop, maybe chrome will)

Just buy a aftermarket cooler if it works out to be a good deal including the added extra cash for aftermarket cooler

By looking at the pictures, the fans look fine.

From what he's telling me it gets noisy at 20%-80% fan speed (I can't see why it wouldn't at 100% but ok), he bought it used on the same website. He also started talking about these cards being good for mining so the fans would last about 3 years (this card shouldn't be too far from 2 years imo). So he really is kinda desperate to sell it ._.

Worry not my dude, I only buy stuff after benchmarking :) I might get him to reduce the price to about 120-130 eur if my puppy-eye game is strong enough

Wait can I ask why you use it still? GPU acceleration?

i5 6600k and GTX 1070 but I play 1600-900. 1440p BABY!

Still, don't put too much faith in my buying decisions. xD

used it before when my 1070 was a derp (VRAM got fucked, DOA)

also during hackintosh, because there is no GPU accelerated ZCash miner on macOS (Windows install fucked up, secondary drive had macOS, was lazy to move my files over)

Right now it's sitting in my secondary computer, doing absolutely nothing. It used to be mining at 50 USD cents a day, which was like 55c CAD, which was worth it to me. But now it's only mining 30c USD a day, which barely makes a profit (like 20 cents over a month if everything remains constant)

My 1070 still mines making me $3.30 CAD or so (no I didn't buy a 1070 for mining, I bought it in February)

Samsung 850 EVO 240 GB

138 is a good number.

read signature lol

i upgraded from my 760 to a 380 two years ago, and in February I upgraded from my 380 to a 1070 (My excuse for upgrading was because I had a 4k monitor! Even though I don't game much anymore.. Sold it for only $30 less than what I paid for it)

Also apparently he's selling it because of buying a 1060 in the near future to play forza motorsport 7 at 60 fps e.e

its a 380, mining on it would be somewhere along the lines of $1.50/2 in peak ETH I guess. I got $5/day with my 1070 at peak ETH (actually mined ZCash as it was MUCH more profitable but, shh)

just letting you know it wouldn't have been mining probably for a long time, maybe a month max. :P

tbh the card selling for 450$ on amazon doesn't help the point I'm trying to make to get him to lower the price a bit ._.
