Yeah, i got it. made it out on the look up on the card. But now i have a new question. Can it be flashed to a d 7970 standard?

Considering it has a 7970 PCB, I wouldn't be surprised if flashing it to unlock the cores actually worked. Plus, there's the dual-BIOS switch to mask any changes incase anything fucks up.

TO the best of my knowledge, not really.  You can flash a  7970 BIOS on but the additional shaders have been fused off in the factory, AMD learned their lesson with the 6950.  So while it'll unlock more voltage options and such, you can't really turn a 7950 into a 7970, shader wise.  However I'm not 100% certian and you have a BIOS switch so it can't hurt to try.

Hmm, so what I'm reading is that i could, but i would have same performance?

Is it though?  My XFX 7950 DD Black Edition also uses 6 and 8 pins as well, but I'm sure it's factory fused (I tried. :(

No, I meant the overall PCB layout. If that's a 7970 PCB, then Gigabyte might've wanted to sell more 7950s and to do so they needed more stock, so they disable a few cores and call it a 7950. Plus, BIOS switch, no harm in trying.

It could still be a 7950 chip.  But I do fully agree with you that with the BIOS switch, no harm in trying.  I imagine someone out there already has a ready to go BIOS image for that model if you fight the right thread.

Well, the 7950 and 7970 chips were both Tahiti anyway :P But yeah, he could start by trying to flash the BIOS with that, or one from the equivalent PCB 7970.

so pretty much i could fuck up once on one side of the bios switch, and then pop it on to the other side and act like nothing happened.

I'm pretty sure there's a guide on overclock.net and techpowerup that you can find through google.
