Can I use isopropyl to cool my water cooled pic?

You'll have to contend with the isopropyl ruining seals and acrylic if you have that in your loop, but it would be worst in performance than using water since it has a lower heat capacity.

I mean you could but it would require a lot of specialized parts and costs more than water... so why

Appreciate it. I have never seen it as even an option and I know alcohol has great heat dissipation and a higher evaporating rate.

Yes, any liquid can be used, even mercury if you're dumb, however

  1. It will probably eat at the seals
  2. it evaporates much easier
  3. it can't carry as much heat
  4. as it absorbs the heat it will evaporate, putting pressure on a sealed loop, and thus with degraded seals may produce very bad leaks, if there is much water in it will be conductive at that point.

Yours faithfully

That's only if it's evaporating to create a cooling effect, it would be more complicated since you would either need to constantly replenish the supply or have it as a sealed unit with a condenser to cool the evaporated alcohol and have it go back into the loop. Which in that case would be something like 3M's full submersion fluid Novec.
