I will take a look at it tonight, thank you. I currently have an older synology and my main file/backup server. I am wanting to have my own cloud. I know my synology can do the cloud station but I don't want to put faith into something that others have not talked about. I saw one bad review of it, but nothing else.

Have you used Cloud Station and if you have, how reliable is it?

Yes. I'm using more services (VPN, torrent etc..), but CloudStation has been the main reason for using DSM.

I have 20 users using CloudStation for sharing access to collaborate work data (~40GB of data).

CloudStation is easy to setup, maintain, restore accidentally deleted data, client compatibility (Win-Mac-Mobile).

If I remember well, I had just one bigger issue - one user accidentally deleted all data, but we restored them easily by CloudStation itself.

But otherwise, 4 years with it, 2 dead HDD (hybrid raid 5 saved the day), 20 users, 10 government projects shared in team and any system issue (only one mentioned earlier.)

Btw: one big plus agains for example OneDrive for Business is CloudStation don't have problem with length of file name (quite important for us).

I've been using it for a few years now and I can't live without it. There were some minor issues with it last year but it's been reliable since then. I run it on 2 Windows VMs and a Windows laptop and have ~42GB (~42K files, 6.8K folders) synced up across all three and my Synology NAS.

Anything specific you want to know about it?

I also tried some open source alternatives (OwnCloud and SyncThing) but kept going back to Synology's Cloud Station after using the others for a day or two.

So Cloud Station is picky about file name length?

I wasn't sure about reliabilty. I really like DSM and prefer it over OMV software that is on my file server. I am looking into xpenology to replace OMV.

Anything threads from before 2017 can be ignored, it's not even the same software anymore (the original Cloud Station software was replaced with Cloud Station Drive and Cloud Station Backup).

Windows wouldn't let me create a file with more than 234 characters (including the extension), but Cloud Station synced it up no problem.

I don't have any experience with Xpenology, make sure it's not using an older version of Cloud Station. Like I said, versions from before 2017 had some issues but everything has been solid over the past 7 months.

Xpenology is the DSM downloaded on your own hardware. However the most stable and support DSM being used right now is 5.2. I have no way of know which version of Cloud Station they are using.

Oh, in that case you probably should look elsewhere. DSM 5.2 is missing a lot of good functionality and probably has the same old issues with Cloud Station since it doesn't support the new version.

I'm on Xpenology currently in version DSM 5.2-5644 Update 8 and as HW is Core2Duo with 4GB ram, version on CloudStation is 3.2-3501 - No issue at all.

DSM 6 I didn't tested yet, cuz I'm for year in Canada and do not have physical access to my HW (only by web/VPN).

Interesting, The only functions I am looking for is the cloud, hibernation, and raid. Thanks.

I have seen where some people got DSM 6.1 running but it doesn't have near the support or hardware support that the 5.2 5644 has.

Thanks.
