Maybe this is more practical build?

I'm a bit new to pc building so I'm still learning.

Thanks for all the input on the topic.

Not directly but I thought it would yield moderate results.

Yes that's much better, but that monitor is crazy expensive

I'm in the process of building a new rig for surround 1440p monitors.

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/6jjFNN

Here's my list of parts.

I was able to get ahold of 1 sapphire r9 290x vapor-x 8gb card.  Still looking for a second card for a reasonable price.

My question is will a single card be able to drive that resolution?

If not I'll save the additional $400 from one of the monitors.

at that resolution and framerate with surround gaming you probably need 1080ti's (maybe higher) with sli in most games to have them look decent

if you only look at the resolution, it can this

Output

2 x DVI-D
1 x HDMI
1 x DisplayPort

Resolution

4096X2160 Pixel DisplayPort Resolution
2560x1600 Pixel Dual Link DVI Resolution
4096X3112 HDMI Resolution

and the way i read it, the gpu should be able to drive all 3 screens

You are going to need 1080 ti SLI to play 1440p surround. I personally would just get an ultrawide. It's a much better experience than surround becasue no bezels

Or just get a $400 HMD with head tracking.

SFF-ish:  Ryzen 5 1600X, Asrock AB350M Pro4, 16GB Corsair LPX 3200, Sapphire R9 Fury Nitro -75mV, 512gb Plextor Nvme m.2, 512gb Sandisk SATA m.2, Cryorig H7, stuffed into an Inwin 301 with rgb front panel mod.  LG27UD58.

Aging Workhorse:  Phenom II X6 1090T Black (4GHz #Yolo), 16GB Corsair XMS 1333, RX 470 Red Devil 4gb (Sold for $330 to Cryptominers), HD6850 1gb, Hilariously overkill Asus Crosshair V, 240gb Sandisk SSD Plus, 4TB's worth of mechanical drives, and a bunch of water/glycol.  Coming soon:  Bykski CPU block, whatever cheap Polaris 10 GPU I can get once miners start unloading them.

MintyFreshMedia:  Thinkserver TS130 with i3-3220, 4gb ecc ram, 120GB Toshiba/OCZ SSD booting Linux Mint XFCE, 2TB Hitachi Ultrastar.  In Progress:  3D printed drive mounts, 4 2TB ultrastars in RAID 5.

that's an aweful lot of pixels my friend, honestly even with 2 cards you're looking at aweful gaming performance.

if you're using them for non gaming purpose a single card will handle them fine at 60hz

Even SLI 1080Ti's would probably not be able to maintain 60fps at that resolution.  The 290X's would probably be a slideshow.

Based on personal experience, i had an sapphire rx480 OC nitro on a 3x1080p display. I'm used to playing at sub 60s framerates with as much eyecandy, but with some games 60+ fps was possible and even higher with some setting tweaks.

Now based on what benchmarks I've seen comparing the 2, 60fps 1440p x3 on the r9 290 might be asking too much. This might not be the best example but if I remember right I benchmarked deus ex mankind divided on 1080p x3 at very high settings all around and got 25-29fps.

you would have to compromise if you are trying to stay under a price point.

Based on the card you bought I'm guessing you were directly copying Linus' surround gaming build from 2013. You can't copy old videos man, stuff changes.

Not directly but I thought it would yield moderate results.

Do you have a suggestion that might be better?

Well the thing is that is the only 3440x1440p 100hz ultra wide there is that's why it is expensive. If you want to go with it that's fine, IMO it's just a lot to spend on a monitor. And are you sure you want to go with Ryzen? If all you do is gaming, then a 7700K is always a better gaming CPU than a 1700, but if you do other stuff like editing or streaming then a 1700 is a better choice. What's your budget for a build and I'll see what I can do.

I don't do much editing or streaming.

I chose ryzen simply for the price.

My budget is about $3,200

Personally I would do this and save a few bucks, you really don't need to spend all of that. This has a 144hz IPS 34in 2560x1080 ultra wide
