Mining

Hi there!

Yesterday i chose to get into mining, and i have been reading some about it. I'm slow but surely getting the basics of it, but i'm not 100% into what kind of hardware i takes...

So here is the question:

Should i build a computer with 2-3 graphics cards, or would i be better of with this: https://products.butterflylabs.com/25-gh-s-bitcoin-miner.html

And would it pay off? Or is it like throwing money out the window?

Thanks!

Bitcoin mining has gotten to the point where it's only really profitable if you have some serious hardware. There are some Bitcoin mining calculators that will give you an idea of how much time it will take to break even and your profit per month and so on.

Looking at that coin miner, the calculator says that it'll take around 83 days to break even if you run it 24/7 and if it's a near constant 25 GH/s. (Could be wrong)

Personally, I don't think it's worth the time and cost to start mining with either solution.

Next time, use more specific header for topic. I was already going to what you need to have in mining company.

These mining threads are growing aren't they? :D

As already said, Bitcoin mining is basically dead unless you have lots of money and can invest into an ASIC miner that arives within 1-2 weeks. Most of the ones you can order at butterflylabs ship spring 2014. until then the market has changed so much and new ASICs are announced so who know if it will be profitable then. If you can get one of these ASICs right now, do it.

Edit: also the difficulty will probably be through the roof until srping 2013

Litecoin on the other hand doesn't have ASICs so the most efficient way to mine that is with graphics cards. The more power the better. But it's AMD only. Here you have some hardware comparisons and a calculator for Litecoin. Also a how to start mining litecoin thread on this forum. Have fun. :D

If you already have a PC I'd suggest to get a R9 280X or a 7970 and mine off it's initial price and go on from there.
