The Golden Monster

EnergyEclipse

Hello, and a mammoth welcome, to the first, and most awesome case mod build I have ever done;

'Hewlett-Gold'

Welcome to my first, rather derpy, mod log!

I do sincerely hope you enjoy this build, and learn as I am doing along the way.

What do you do with your ancient computer chassis?

Do you throw them out, use them for a case toss competition, or just straight up leave them to gather dust admiring its aged innovations?

Well I'll tell you what I do.

TURN THEM GOLDEN.

Otherwise known as the act of turning a once rather boring chassis and making it fabulous :DD

So I've had many the old chassis come throw my fingers, all the way from age warped Pentium II era Compaq cases all the way up NZXT H230s. None of which really had anything of amazement to them, just there well painted exteriors and arrays of derelict drive caddies.

But, this wasn't one of those. And if you've ever worked with a Hewlett Packard system, you'll know what I mean, very, very well.

And so, I introduce my latest, unsponsored project, 'Hewlett-Gold'

CPU

Intel® Core™ i7-4790 @ 4.0ghz

Motherboard

Gigabyte GA-H81M-S2H (rev.1.0)

RAM

Corsair Vengeance DDR3 RAM (X.M.P 1600mhz)

GPU

EVGA GeForce GTX 980ti FTW Edition ACX 2.0

Storage

Western Digital blue 3tb HDD, 128gb Kingston SSD.

PSU

Corsair RM1000x

Cooling

Hyper 103 / with IC essential E1 (Pea method application).

And a ton of bitfenix alchemy cabling some cold cathodes since you know, gotta get dat 2017 look

Chassis:

Current images courtesy to there respectful owners (I don't have any images before I started spray painting stuff sorry D;)

Preparing the chassis for spray painting :D I want to leave all of the original caution stickers from HP. The original silver interior colour shall be left as is as no visible scratches.

Quite right, my dear chap, quite right. And I did agree, thus the "agree" gracing your post above.

For some reason my phone now believes that a rather bright gold is silver... same value, right? + Final preparation for the rest of the case's spray down.014.thumb.JPG.08d1c4599baf97df6283902b9ba4152e.JPG

ha ha lol sarry to hear thatxD I've never spray painted before so this is just me learning as I do it.

Maybe try doing another few coats with some newer paint? Rust-Oleum have a few videos on spray painting which I watched. Also I haven't used primer in this so I just hope none of the paint eventually falls off xD

I apologise for the horrendous focus on these images but I blame both the weight of my phone for causing my hand to shake and myself, and I blame myself for it again xD

This it da other side panel and top of the case There are a few scratches doe from prying off the original windows licenses D:002.thumb.JPG.57d5c2550153e8d24efc85440c8354fd.JPG003.thumb.JPG.a4ec97fc9d0c5f10b8be5304f80dd0c3.JPG001.thumb.JPG.bcfc5b2f64929ba2702819ef4ab2c050.JPG

lel that PSU box doesn't actually explain any were what the silent technology even is.. xD

GOTTA GET THEM SHADY BOOTSALE FOUND PSUs!

I legit brought that PSU for 50p thinking it was actually someone very misinformed selling it for 50p...turned out when I opened the box it was actually a 350W unit with some slightly suspicious 'X's on some of the molex connectors so, 50p fan from it I guess?

Thank you for your support on this build!

Please let me know how your build goes as I really want all the inspiration right now before I start drilling fan holes and making the case super crazy xD

I might have a lot of carbon fibre wraps on the way to cover that concern...
