Should I Uninstall Kaspersky? After hearing about the news, the company works with the Russian Government. I have about 2 months left on my subscription. Should I remove it and get another brand? What brands are the best replacements for kaspersky. Something that is not too heavy but still offer good protection.

Windows defender?

Have you tried to perform a sudden temporary interrupt of the electricity flow to your computational device followed by a re-initialization procedure of the central processing unit and associated components?

I wouldn't bother switching, but i use Symantec. Microsoft security essentials are also good, and light weight.

What do you guys think about trend micro?

I really don't care about what they do. If it stops my PC from being infected by all the new and scary malware, I don't care. Used them since 2013 and haven't had a single problem with it. You're just being too paranoid.

microsoft security essentials was rebranded to defender i think, it's the same scanner at any rate, it's lightweight, it's built in to windows 10 and it's totally free.

not sure how symantec is now, but i have experiences with the consumer version being very resource heavy for an AV.

i don't think paying for consumer grade antivirus is better than using the free built in defender, you usually pay for alot of extra, like "outlook mail scanning" and "webfilters" etc, if that is what you want, then google around for the latest antivirus reviews and find the one you find to be the best, otherwise, if you're careful and just want the extra protection antivirus provides, go for windows defender

you can easily get malware that antiviruses won't pick up.. say you install java.. if you just press "next" through til finish, you have also installed ask toolbar..

and i'm not sure many if any antiviruses detects the crypto locker viruses...

it's a false safety to believe that the antivirus keeps your computer completely clean from malware

Watch Techquikies's video on Anti-Virus vs Anti-Malware. I know the differences. But it offers lots of features that many AVs don't. I've never had a problem with them. I don't recommend running an AV by itself, always get an Anti Malware like Malwarebytes (which I also use).

Pretty sure Java doesn't include an Ask toolbar. Even if it did, anti viruses protect against VIRUSES, not a human blindly clicking next.

It's up to you. I got myself a one year subscription of Kaspersky and I'm pretty much satisfied. It was able to block malware from infecting my PC from a friend's flash drive.

Look at Eugene Kaspersky's response: https://eugene.kaspersky.com/2017/07/12/how-bloomberg-just-edited-an-agricultural-newspaper/

i see they have made it more obvious now instead if "hiding" it withint the installation pages and it seems the toolbar has finally been removed. but it still sets up yahoo for homepage and default searching

Java has done this for many years now, basically after microsoft and apple dropped built in support for it

sorry for the strange looking window, i think my dpi scaling is messing it up

If and when you remove Kaspersky, you could make a sensible solution and switch to Linux and if you know you need antivirus, then clamAV will take care of it.

Works even in Windows (unpleasant, but true)
