I figure just looking at stock clockspeeds. I know people say you can overclock to where they all match but that's not a guarantee. I figure a 1700 that can OC to 4GHz would have been binned as a 1700x or 1800x.

So anyone have an idea what the best R7 or R5 is for use in VR gaming/?

R5 1600 or R7 1700 would probably be the ideal choices.

They should alleviate any CPU bottleneck you would have with the 6 and 8 cores they provide.

The R7 1700 is currently selling for $299 on Newegg. You can get a pre-binned 1700 that is validated to 3.9GHz for $289 at SiliconLottery.

I don't understand . They both have different core counts.

ok. the intel 7700k has 4 physical cores. the amd 1600 has 6 physical cores, and then 1700 has 8 phisical cores. the 1700, is like 40-50$ USD cheaper than the 4 core 7700k.

Just cause they could boot it to 3.9 doesn't mean its stable there.

They run RealBench on a loop for an hour to validate it...but hey don't bother reading anything and just make assumptions xD

Maybe, but looking at their site, I see claims of testing but no guarantees. You'd think their warrranty would cover the cpu not being stable at their tested value... but I can't find it...

You probably won't to many variables i.e. water cooled vs air cooled hardware such as motherboard and psu
