What is mining and how do you do it?

I want to get in to litecoin mining because I barely use my computer and its outlook is good. The problem is, I have no clue where to start. Like, at all.

Is there a short and sweet list of what to do and how to do it to set up litecoin mining?

Read the FAQ, figure out your hash rate and then look at your electric bill to see if it's even worth doing.

There is a spreadsheed out there (probably linked in the FAQ) that shows hash rates for each card.

Error: 410

If current difficulty and price stays the same, you could make about $80/month with the 7770 if you run it 24/7 and pay around 10¢/kWh.

Main rig: i7 3770K @ 4.54, Sapphire R9 290, Sabertooth Z77, 16 GB Mushkin Redline 2133, Lian Li PC-P50R, Seasonic 860xp Platinum, Kingston Hyper X 3K 240GB

freeNAS server: AMD Athlon II 170u 20W, 5 x 3TB WD Red in raid-z1 (12 TB)

media centre: AMD A10-5700, crucial M4 (boot), running XBMC,4 x 3TB WD Red, 3 x 3TB WD green + 2TB green in FlexRAID (17 TB)

Looked into it and was fairly surprised that it is actually that profitable right now with a 7770.

Yup. The 7770 is still a low end miner, but the LTC price is almost at $40 now.
