Not really a budget. Just needs something that will work. Shes a secretary and uses servant keeper for accounting along with publisher, excel, web browsing etc...

For an office PC I'd go with something like a Pentium G4560, if you want to spend a little extra then get a Core i5 7400.

Well a lot of the Excel work I do, requires a pretty beefy cpu. So you're wrong there. And a budget would help us because there are a lot of cpu's that are good for workflow that are different prices. a Pentium will do that job but you will be much happier with an I5, for example. Maybe try not to be a dick and think before you post things like this ;)

If they have the money and want to save themselves the heart ache, get the I5, a lot of people running those types of programs have a bad habbit of trying to run them all at once, which would bog down most I3's.

Running lots of stuff at once bogs down RAM more than anything.

I bet that secretary is building awesome hugely optimized Excel sheets, which requires at least threadripper CPU's. So wait till they get released.

Or you can listen to these guys and get the I3 xD I work in office environments supporting secretaries and all sorts of office workers. I'm not saying buy an I7, I SAID If you have the money, get the i5, it will be better for you in every way. If not, then get the i3.

Dual Core with HT + 8GB of Dual Channel memory without extrenal GPU but with SSD.
If you want/need something better, go Core i5 with 16GB Dual Channel and NVMe + HDD combo (if you want overkill) :D
We don't know how complex are files she will be dealing with, but Pentium G4560 and 8GB RAM is enough for basic stuff.

To put it this way, you can justify an i7 for that kind of work.  But will it really affect work productivity to have less?

Your threshold will vary, but I'd say just an i3 would suffice.  Put 8gb or 16gb of RAM in to soften the blow of leaving programs in the bg.  SSD for faster access would help more tbh.

Dry time of nail polish or a faster coffee machine might get some employee productivity increase.
