Ram for X299

Hello everyone. I want to buy i9 7900k with 1080Ti in SLI but I don't know which memory to choose? I know that X99 didn't really like faster memory than 3200MHZ. Does fast memory give effects in Skylake-X?

I understand that I also need to take 4x8 for 32GB? It's correct?

I think about G.Skill Trident Z DDR4, 4x8GB, 3866MHz, CL18 (F4-3866C18Q-32GTZ). Good choice? Please help because I'm newbie in RAM.

Fast memory always has effects, but once you go past 3200 MHz usually the gains are limited. I would stick with a 3200 MHz kit tbh. Also note it's x299 not x99.

It highly depends on what MoBo you plan to buy. A chap X299 (joke of the day) may not support as high RAM as a more expensive one. After you choosed you mobo, just simply look at it's specification to see which RAM speeds are supported, then get one that fits your budget.

OOPS.

They did say 7900k instead of 7900x tho, as a side note :P

X299 is a fucking joke. Gaming performance in some games is up to 30fps lower with a 1080Ti against a 7700k that's 200Mhz faster due to the different cache structure.

Either go with consumer for the best gaming performance or wait for Ryzen Threadripper to blow Shitstorm299 away at a lower cost

idk

I know mate, but 7900X is better than 7700k for SLI. I have to buy a computer now, I have time until the end of the month. AMD will come out a lot later.... :/

@HKZeroFive - for games.

You don't buy a $1000 processor just to game...

Buy a i7-7700K and get better performance while saving yourself a good chunk of money.

This processor will cope with SLI? 2x PCI x8 vs 2x PCI 16x

Very few and rare cases (such as Just Cause 3) where GPUs will benefit more from x16 over x8.

Not to mention that the i7-7700K is the better processor for gaming from a pure performance standpoint.

7900x will do worse. X8 pcie lanes will barely impact gaming performances, your performance will see a smaller drop from that than it will gain from getting a 7700k instead.

http://www.gamersnexus.net/guides/2963-intel-12k-marketing-blunder-pcie-lane-scaling-benchmarks

The difference is less than 2%. On the other hand, a 7900x will usually lose to a 7700k by more than that. Though I guess it comes with the bonus of being a free home heater, though it's summer right now so you probably don't want that xD

Buying x299 for gaming lol... half the price you get the exact same performance when talking about the 6c/12t processors... I would just buy a Ryzen 7 1800x with a x370 motherboard.

Srsly dont get X299, wait for Threadripper, X299 is a joke, a very bad joke.

The boards aren't "complete" because intel blitzed the announcement.

If u want 2 look rich get the best ryzen, Zenith Extreme from Asus and two 1080Ti Strix in SLI

Don't buy Apple M1 computers with 8GB of RAM
