I finished my gaming PC build a few days ago and it was running fine. However, I shut it down last night, when I tried to turn it on today morning the fans started spinning, the LED's lighted up and my keyboard backlight turned on as well. I also saw some logo on the screen (Wasn't paying attention), but after this, the display went black and the keyboard backlight went out; the fans and everything were still on though. I noticed that there was a little red light next to the RAM on the mobo. I shut down the computer using the power button and restarted again. This time everything started up fine, and I'm now using it; however, there is a red light above the CPU area.

I have the X370 version of that board and the LEDs on the board are used ff diagnosing problems which is a pretty awesome feature as it allows you to find an issue much faster, On my board the LED above my CPU indicates if my GPU has an LED (which is quite weird to me but whatever). I'd check your motherboard manual as it should tell you why the light has lit up, it should also say on the board bellow the light

Hello,

I finished my gaming PC build a few days ago and it was running fine. However, I shut it down last night, when I tried to turn it on today morning the fans started spinning, the LED's lighted up and my keyboard backlight turned on as well. I also saw some logo on the screen (Wasn't paying attention), but after this, the display went black and the keyboard backlight went out; the fans and everything were still on though. I noticed that there was a little red light next to the RAM on the mobo. I shut down the computer using the power button and restarted again. This time everything started up fine, and I'm now using it; however, there is a red light above the CPU area.

Anyone know what caused this? And what do the lights mean?

Have you checked the manual? It should say somewhere in it what the LED means.

I just checked, the LED above the CPU on my board is for GPU LED as well. I don't think my 1060 has any LED's, is that why the red light is on? I just noticed that the lights on the side are labeled as well. So if it happens again I'll know what's wrong. Say for example, if the DRAM light is on, would I just have to remove it and place it back?

yeah i have an R9 fury which doesn't have any LEDs so mine is also constantly on (however mine is white instead of red). Yeah you would i put my RAM in slots 1 and 3 to start with and my PC wouldn't post and the DRAM LED was lit so i moved it to 2 and 4 then my system posted. It's a pretty hand feature for first time builders

Alright, thanks. I panicked when the display didn't show anything. But restarting it fixed everything.
