Hello guys

I currently run an ESXI server with a couple of virtual machines (3x windows server 2016 and 1x Ubuntu).

Now am I thinking about going to unraid.

The reason that I want to switch over is because I have a lot of problems installing Gitlab on Ubuntu. And for what I can see unraid has an easy to use interface for tracking docker instances.

What do you guys think? Should I go over to unraid, or should I just figure out how to install Gitlab on ESXI.

What I have running now in ESXI is a fileshare, Plex, Couchpatato, NMBZ and a gameserver (one of the windows servers with things like a minecraft server and factorio,...).

unRAID is mainly targeted for storage solutions, although it has Docker and KVM also included. The thing with Docker is that the UI by default supports containers from specific sources (templates), but you can install any other container from the CLI.

You don't install Gitlab on ESXi, you need a operating system that will be running it. I have 2 Ubuntu 16.04 VMs running for that. You could also just set up a VM, install Docker and set up Gitlab there.

Long story short, if you don't have any storage needs, don't switch to unRAID.
