Ok, I think I've done goofed. So I have had my computer for ~3 years now. I've OC'ed it, got it stable (or so I thought), and one day when I woke up, it was off and wasn't even going through POST. I couldn't even get in my BIOS.

So I cleared CMOS, everything was just back to normal.

Years passed (today), I decide that I wanna OC again because I found the sheet of paper I used for my overclocking status/progress. I figure I'll just set it to the voltage and multiplier of what was for sure stable and go from there. Well this time I put 'Offset voltage' instead of 'manual'. IDK why, but I just felt like it.

When I saved and exited BIOS, it just didn't even go through POST. Ok, so it's kind of like my previous problem, I'll just reset CMOS and I'll be good! Not quite. After resetting CMOS, it would boot up POST, and I was able to push F2 to go into BIOS to see if everything is ok. But after 5-10 seconds, the fans would go super saiyan and then computer shuts off. I checked temp in BIOS as fast as I can on the next boot, and it was only 56C.

Now I've tried basically everything but taking it apart and putting it back together. I'd like to do the most minimal invasive troubleshooting before going to surgery.

So now I'm stuck just trying to figure out what can the problem be? I will take it all apart when I have time and go from there, but in the meantime, what could this problem be?

Did I just short circuit my power supply or something? I'm thinking it could be something to do with the power supply?

I doubt your PSU had an issue with that, but its more likely the issue resides in your CPU or motherboard. If the fans begin spinning up and then the system turns off due to a temperature issue, could the temperature sensors in the socket or CPU have been damaged? (not great with this stuff)

Thanks for your reply. I was thinking that as well. I'm pretty sure my CMOS is clear and BIOS is clear. I took out battery, reset pins, pushed the CMOS button. When I booted it up just now, it said 'Overclocking failed. Please go into Setup' or something like that, and then it shut down again.

It goes through POST, and I'm able to log in at time, but only for seconds, and I can get into BIOS, only for seconds. It probably has to do with temps?! But I checked the temps in BIOS and they were 50C, fairly normal.

If it's saying overclocking failed , then CMOS wasn't cleared. Try again, make sure to discharge capacitors after turning PSU off, by pressing start button a few times. Then just clear it with clear CMOS button, you don't need to do all 3 methods. If it still doesn't do it then I think you might have fragged the BIOS chip. Keep trying, but I think it might have been when you accidentally used offset voltage maybe?, what voltage did you put in for offset voltage?

I was not able to set the voltage when Offset was selected. I think it has to do something along those lines of what youre saying, the BIOS chip or something with the MOBO.

everything turns on and its fine, but just shuts off after a 10-15 seconds, less if I keep booting it up consecutively.
