"Bang for the Buck" Fittings

So I'm trying to put together a custom loop with mostly parts from EKWB, but I can't decide what fittings to get (can be from other companies) because Ek's seem really expensive ($6.49) per fitting.

It depends on what tubing your using but barbs are usually a cheaper option, however I would recommend to go with a good compression fitting. Barrow makes some decent stuff also I've used a couple of their adapters before.

So how does something like this compare to most fittings on the market in terms of design? I know EK provides an Allen key to tighten down their fittings.

Many considered them to be "unbranded" or knock off Bitspowers style fittings as they carry a similar design.

I just picked up some Barrow fittings (though a slightly newer version) and they seem really solid at first glance.  Haven't gotten water into them yet but I feel pretty good about them.  I was able to get them on aliexpress for a decent amount cheaper than anywhere in the states and shipping wasn't too bad.
