I doubt it's the HDD. Check your CPU and RAM usage and also try another video player, some don't handle 4K all that well. My personal choice for 4K playback is MPC-HC, it seems to do the best job.

I am using an i7 4770 and 8gb DDR3 1600 MHz ram

Check your HDD for corruptions with a tool like Hard Disk Sentinel. If your HDD has areas of corruption, it could be that the video files just so happen to be stored on the area that is damaged. 

How old is your HDD? Assuming it's from around the same time as the CPU, I would definitely recomend downloading Hard Disk Sentinel to see if there are any issues with it. It could very well be time for a new hard drive.
