Project Cars, as stated above, is a good game; however, it is realistic - and that's not fun for all.

Besides that, I'd say have a look into Trackmania (Preferably Stadium, on TM2), or DiRT Rally.

Sim?

1. iRacing <---- if you print money.

2. Assetto Corsa

3. rFactor 2

4. Race Room Racing Experience <---- F2P

5. Automobilista

6. GT Legend

7. Dirt Rally

8. Richard Burn Rally

other than GT Legend and RBR, you can find all of the above from Steam.

Euro Truck Simulator 2 and Americna Truck Simulator are so much fun :)

Anyways, I would recommend the following:

- Forza Horizon 3

- Project Cars (yes, it is realistic, as others have said, but fun).

- Dirt 4

- Dirt Rally

- Asseto Corsa

- Forza Motorsport 6

Not a racing game, but my favorite driving game,

- City Car Driving

Hello! It's me just passing through :)

I can personally vouch for both Dirt Rally and rFactor 2.

I really didn't find Project Cars to be realistic so much as it was slidey and an inaccurate simulation of loss of grip. Seriously a few of the cars in that game I've driven in real life and they just don't constantly faff about like that on real roads. It just isn't fun. This isn't even going into the abominable AI - Cars will straight up ram you into the stratosphere if you brake early (the airborne issue is patched now) - they are on some serious rails, think OG Gran Turismo on Playstation. If you only play online, can endure what can be a dreadfully toxic community, and get used to driving on soap, you might enjoy it. I'm not exaggerating about the community part. From the developer and the hardcore fans I have seen some downright mean things said to customers who were offering criticism or asking for help. I've never seen anything like it in the racing sim genre. I will say this, it is hands down one of the most beautifully detailed games I've ever played. It also seems to always be on sale. I digress.

As far as fun goes Dirt has it in spades, though the AI in rallycross is a menace. The game is an endless pursuit of perfection when it comes to times, very addictive. The grip on the different surfaces feels really right. Graphics are gorgeous. It runs really well on just about any system. I can't say enough positive things about this game.

R factor AI is decent but where it really shines is its physics. In my humble opinion it has the absolute best tyre modelling in any racing game, right down to a lockup causing a flat spot on the tyre and subsequent bumping and loss of grip. This is a racing simulator. It is an unforgiving and cruel mistress. If you want to put a wheel to use and test your abilities she will abide. The graphics are very... middling. The community is very supportive and helpful, but can be pretty small compared to others. Though you can always find solid groups online, there's not always many available at any given moment. There is a ton of community sourced free content, so keep that in mind.

Forza 6: Apex for PC is fun but repetitive. Good blend of realism/fun physics-wise. Feels good. Not the best optimized game on PC but if it can run on my humble rig (FX6300 gtx1060) it will probably run on yours. Also it's free. RaceRoom is free-to-play. Kind of a sandbox, you can purchase more cars with real dollars. It's OKAY in my opinion. It is free though, so you can certainly try it no-risk.

Can't comment on iRacing or Asseto, haven't played em. I hear good things. A few of my online friends say iRacing community is pretty active but I wouldn't know. I believe the game also has a voting system for penalties (but correct me if I'm wrong).

I'm suprised noone has mentioned the F1 series.

Cranked up to the most real settings, I think it can quite easily compete with the best sims out there - especially the 2016 edition.

I'm super stoked for Forza 7, Dirt 4 is fun but unforgiving if you start to zone out the callouts your co-driver is saying lol. Otherwise as others have stated here, Asseto is good, but I've always been into the Forza series. I simply do not have the time or money to buy every racing game under the sun.
