Is Chrome getting worse?

RuLeZ

Hi guys, I use Chrome since many years, almost since the beginning when they had like 5% market share, and at the time it was great.

But now I think is just getting worse, it doesnt support some resolutions to use iGPU/GPU codec, doesnt support netflix at higher than 720p, and now I am skipping frames on youtube with an E3 1231V3 in 1080p, and not just 1 or 3 frames, like 50+ per video, and of course privacy issues due to the fact that Google archives our data.

What browser are you using right now? And if you use Chrome, are you also thinking that its just getting worse?

Thanks for the attention.

I've never noticed dropped frames or anything that has been the fault of the browser. My little Core 2 Duos with no dedicated graphics can stream 1080p60 with Chrome just fine.

If you're having dropped frames then something is wrong with your hardware/software configuration.

You should try reinstalling it or clean installing windows because something is clearly wrong on your end.

Also, every browser will take your information, regardless whether you use chrome or not.

Not every browser will take my information, there are some modified browser to collect as little as possible information.

Probably the frame droppes are some problem with my config, but what about the poorly optimized hardware codec support? And the fact that it doesnt support higher than 720p on netflix?

If you have a lower end Atom with VP9/H265 support, you need to use Edge or something else to play 1080p+.

Not that I really need this support, I just dont understand the lack of it.

Then instead of the browser taking your information, your ISP, search engine, websites, and OS will.

If you are concerned about some random servers collecting big data then you should probably stop using the internet asap.

I use VPN, I know that they collect data anyway, I just prefer to avoid inviting the NSA for dinner. I know that it's impossible to live today without government collecting info from you, but I don't see why shouldn't you try to avoid some of it.

It's big data, it literally means nothing.

Unless you're a criminal there is no human being looking at your data, just computers.

You're basically scared about a computer knowing what websites you visit...

I dont need to be a criminal to prefer to dont have every information of my life being logged, if you are ok with that fine, and even if you think that your government just want the best for you, data can leak.

Even with a VPN your information will still get logged by every website you visit.

Your OS will still take telemetry.

Your ISP still knows where the data is going even if it's encrypted.

The only solution is to unplug your ethernet cable and stop using a cell phone.

Who cares if some of your metadata gets leaked?

Do you think anyone cares about what websites you visit?

Your argument is basically "I better wear a mask in public or someone might take a photo of me and they will know what my face looks like!"

No, my argument is "I dont want 10 microphones from the government at my home, I dont do something illegal, but I still prefer some privacy."

Its not just metadata, they log many details, if you google on your phone Barbecue, you will receive in your Facebook ads about meat in the next day.

I mean its ok if you dont care, but some people care.

That's not the government, that's the companies and corporation that you use websites of.

Using a VPN doesn't stop websites from collecting your data.

Either way you're gonna get ads unless you use adblock, what difference does it make to you?

I would personally prefer ads about a barbecue than of singles in my area.

I fucking hate the way Chrome handles hardware acceleration. Not only can it not do it properly, dropping frames on an MP4 video at 720p60 (don't get me fucking started at how it can get at 1080p), it's just very inefficient all-around. Edge has proven to me to handle video way better through YouTube.
