Hi guys,

I haven't built a system in a while and I am looking for guidance.

What it will be used for:

A lot of data mining and calculations. I basically have a program that deals with a lot pulling and pushing data in and out from the web. It will run 24/7. Some days there will be exporting a lot of data into excel and then I will be calculating excel sheets while the program is still running (hopefully this makes sense).

I will also need the system to push out 4k (3840x2160 works fine...if you are picky about it being true 4k)

I don't know how much the work load will increase on the system but i was recommended to pick an i5 over i7 by the programmers of the system for my work load.

My thoughts:
CPU:

Ryzen 7 1700 (future proofing...if not the 12thread might work just as well)

RAM:

16gb ram (I lost touch on the ram and whole ryzen thing but I'm not OC soooo I don't think it should matter)

MOBO:

ASUS ROG STRIX B350-F (this was on sale but I missed the deal b/c I was overthinking...so what now...)

GPU:
The Ryzen should have a built in one...if not I have a 650ti laying around here...there will be no graphic work just used to display)

Case:

Full ATX with 3 pre-installed fan...240, 240, and 140mm if I remeber correctly...one I have picked out is $80 open box

PSU:

EVGA 500 W1, 80+ WHITE 500W (Help me out on this...what you think?)
https://www.amazon.com/EVGA-WHITE-Warranty-Supply-100-W1-0500-KR/dp/B00H33SFJU/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1499967300&sr=1-1&keywords=power+supply

STORAGE:

ADATA SU800 M.2 2280 128GB Ultimate 3D NAND Solid State (I have an Cursair SSD at home and a extra 250gb M.2. in my laptop...but what do you guys think of this? Never used them before but reviews are good)
https://www.amazon.com/ADATA-SU800-M-2-128GB-ASU800NS38-128GT-C/dp/B01M9K0N8I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1499967552&sr=8-1&keywords=adata+m.2

Price:

Less than $600...shooting for ~$550? After mail and rebate would be fine. The case I have picked out is $80 but I'm open to anything.

Thanks ahead you guys/gals , hopefully, I provided enough information.:)

Ryzen doesn't have integrated graphics.

The psu isn't too great either, this would be better https://pcpartpicker.com/product/XxvZxr/evga-b3-450w-80-bronze-certified-fully-modular-atx-power-supply-220-b3-0450-v1

Or keep an eye on grey label CXm's at NewEgg, they go on sale quite often.

ryzen doesn't have an igpu .

If your work can use hardware acceleration ( through a gpu ), i'd advise getting something like the r5 1600 paired with an rx560/460 or gtx 1050(ti), if you need cuda. It can provide a significant speedup if supported.

AMD Ryzen R7 1700 (3.8ghz) w/ NH-D14, EVGA RTX 2080 XC (stock), 4*4GB DDR4 3000MT/s RAM, Gigabyte AB350-Gaming-3 MB, CX750M PSU, 1.5TB SDD + 7TB HDD, Phanteks enthoo pro case

Thats good to know. Thank you guys!

Thank you for the PSU, I'll be going with this one. It's even fully modular.

"alot" is a pretty meaningless term. Are you talking MB, GB, or TB?

Not all M.2 drives are faster than SATA III. In fact if the drive is not NVMe it almost certainly runs a SATA III interface.

Get a really good quality 350W - 450W psu. Seasonic has a number of offerings. The Corsair CXM-450 is also pretty decent.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

Sadly it's all CPU, it doesn't use any GPU. Think all excel data.

RAM:

What do you guys think I should get for the RAM? The RAM and Mobo has been really throwing me off.

You are correct. I would say 10gb per hour (pushing out) but that not exporting or anything. It's a lot of pictures (3% videos) and user info. So the pictures is what will be taking a lot.

Anything on the motherboard's memory QVL. So that means picking the mobo first.

Any recommendations?

Asus PRIME B350-PLUS

Corsair - Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3600 (QVL suggests it will run DOCP3200). Only two memory slots are usable with this speed. See http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/SocketAM4/PRIME_B350-PLUS/PRIME_B350-PLUS_Memory_QVL_20170704.pdf?_ga=2.190591721.393753994.1500013961-738696917.1465000001 for other choices.

You are the best bud.

I wanted to start with 16gb and then maybe go up to 32gb if it ended up being needed. So what do you guys think of this setup?

CPU:
Ryzen 7 1700

MOBO:

Asus PRIME B350-PLUS
RAM:

HyperX FURY Black 16GB Kit (2x8GB) 2133MHz DDR4 Non-ECC

https://www.amazon.com/Kingston-HyperX-2133MHz-HX421C14FBK4-32/dp/B00TY6A1LY?th=1

PSU:

EVGA 550 B3, 80 Plus BRONZE 550W, Fully Modular (I couldn't find it's constant voltage rating. I'm going to be still looking...maybe I missed it)

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?item=N82E16817438120

GPU:

650ti (already have one laying around...might just upgrade to 1050 if I needed anything)

STORAGE:

Samsung SM961 256GB (NVMe) (came in my MSI laptop and I'm not using it since I have added a 1tb of 960evo to it so why not just use it).

If I have missed anything up or if anything seems questionable PLEASE tell me. I am so bombarded at work that I am afraid that I am mentally blocked and over looking something, and financially I can't afford a mistake until our product launches.

If the plan is to upgrade to 32GB of memory, consult the Asus memory QVL list I linked in my previous post. Look for a suitable kit that indicates it can be used in all 4 DIMM slots.

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151093 would be a much better psu choice.

What I did is that I found a 32gb with 4 DIMM option on that list and when I found it on amazon I picked 16gb kit. But the 16gb version model serial isn't on that list.

Am pretty sure that is okay, right?

Thank you for the PSU. Does any specs ever say the constant voltage or am I looking for the wrong information

So long as the only thing that changes in the kit number is the number of sticks and the total capacity, I think you should be fine. But I don't know this for sure. What is apparently important to the AMD R7 memory controller is the actual memory chips used and their organization. Perhaps someone with more knowledge about differences between similarly numbered quad and dual channel kits could chime in.

I checked and the RAM is the same. One last question though (sorry about that), I'm thinking of going with the ryzen 5 1600 due to the cost and was wondering if you still would recommend the same motherboard. I'm 99% sure it's good to go but wanted to double check.

EDIT: NVM, went ahead and ordered the 1700...overkill a bit maybe but who cares lol. It's only $50. Thank you everyone for all of your help! Especially to you brob
