Wanna turn this oldie into a capable PC

FlushaDev

So I have had this PC since 2007, just found out it was still somewhere in my house, turned the house upside down and found it on the best of some forgotten room. ANYWAY, I have upgraded it using a spare 650 now, pretty capable, can play games and all that with respectable framerates but I'd like to add more RAM (At least reach 8GBs) and swap the CPU with a Core 2 Quad Q6600, if possible obv, gonna provide some screenshots from CPU-ID below, thanks to anyone who helps...

What's the question? Which hardware is compatible?

I would basically like to know if it's possible to toss in 2 sticks of 4GB DDR2 each but dunno what frequency I must look for, also would like to know if the Core 2 Quad Q6600 would be compatible with this board

you can toss a  850 950 or 1050 in it and it can do most basic games

Gonna stick with the 650 for now, gonna play some CS:GO and some more ESports games if possible

yeah 650 is fine as well probably the most notable things you could do is get an ssd and maybe some more ram

Core 2 Quad Q6600 I believe has a different chipset required for this Mobo. Ram not sure.

More RAM is a MUST, but I don't really know about compatibility, check out the motherboard for yourself (Model is in CPU-ID Screenshots)

Also when I tested it on counter-strike like 10 minutes ago, it got like 60 FPS up and down, also had some freezing, is the CPU a problem?

get a cheap cooler better than intel stock cooler

just add an ssd

and add 8 gigs of ddr2 ram

I'll see what I can do about the cooler, I have a lot of spare PC parts, so I'm sure I'll find a good cooler for it...

Now for the SSD, I'm pretty sure the board has SATA 2 connectors only, not sure, look up the model on google (Screenshots)

For the RAM I need to know what frequency (MHz) I need to pick

Finding 4GB DDR2 isn't super easy in my experience, if it has 4 slots it might be easier to grab 4x2GB

If you want to know about compatibility with both RAM and CPU, just google the motherboards name and manufacturer, go to their site and check under "support". Usually there's a list about all those things there.

Also make sure you have the correct BOIS, sometimes you'll need to update it or the CPU wont work.

Q6600 can still game a bit, and if combined with a 1050ti you'll have yourself a decent budget gaming rig :)

Will check is out in a bit, gonna tear it down just to get all the info I need from it and then rebuild it. I'll keep ya'll updated.

I'll try searching for the 4x2 RAM thanks!

I need to make sure about the compatibility of the Q6600 with this board, if it isn't any recommended capable CPUs?

http://www.asrock.com/mb/intel/conroe1333-d667 r1.0/#CPU

The CPU support list for that motherboard is here.  However unless that list is incorrect it would appear that Core 2 Quads are not supported at all. Only higher end duos will fit.

Maybe a nice server or HTPC?

Edit: 18th post in this thread, why is this the first post where someone just dug up the CPU support list from the motherboard's official site?

That's what I was just about to say, Quads are not supported, but I may be able to swap the RAM and go for 2x4GB DDR2
