So I recently bought a new motherboard for a new computer I'm planning on building sometime within the next few months. However, I want to be able to verify that the motherboard itself can post and isn't a D.O.A. Is there a way to check to make sure the motherboard doesn't have any basic faults in it without having the RAM and CPU? I have an extra PSU if I can just hook that up just to make sure the board itself can boot.

Don't want to get around to finally building the damn thing and the first piece I bought was D.O.A. and it's too late to do an R.M.A. and return it for a new one.

Just build it outside the case. Board, cpu and ram. Plus psu obviously. Get into bios And ur good. You can just sit any heat sink on the cpu for this, no need to mount it or attach it as in the bios it makes little heat. You get to bios and ur good most likely.

Unfortunately I don't have the CPU as of now. I don't know if I'll be able to get the new one in time to be able to get a full refund from Amazon :|

I don't think you can get into bios without a chip. What board is it?

It's a GIGABYTE AORUS GA-AX370-Gaming K5 AMD Ryzen ATX DDR4 Motherboard. The biggest problem here is that none of my friends, at least to my knowledge, own an AMD CPU as they're Intel people. After Ryzen came out I wanted to get a Ryzen chip for streaming and gaming. Got the Gigabyte board for $145 USD from the Prime Sale (don't judge me too much!).

I didn't think of that but I'm unaware of any friends owning an AMD motherboard/CPU to be able to test it there! Great idea though I hadn't thought of that

Was hoping you would be that guy  to be like... I don't have any sorry.

That is also another idea! I've always heard bad things about mail-in-rebates though. Either never getting it or they argue you did it incorrectly

So all in all I've learned that within the next month I need to buy a Ryzen chip (I can just steal the RAM I have currently in my PC, Corsair 16GB 2400MHz Vengeance DDR4) or find friends. Any suggestion on a Ryzen chip? I've been looking at the 1700x
