Dram & BCLK problem

Hey all, 

I have 8 Gb g skill ripjaws ram in my pc now running at 1600mhz, i checked the ram specifications when I bought it and it says it can go upto 2133mhz

now my question is can I overclock just the ram without overclocking the cpu, my ram seems to be the bottle neck because when im playing games and alt tabbing to discord or my browser, it lags like hell. also i was checking frequency and stuff in the bios i can increase it upto 2400mhz and bclk only had 2 options 100:100 and 100:133 and auto, its set to auto but idk what the other 2 options mean.

I only have 8GB so is it worth it to overclock or buy 2 more sticks. its ddr3 btw my motherboard is asus z97-k

it set the ram to its rated memory settings by loading a profile off the ram, it doesn't overclock the CPU.

ok i just did it and cpu z still shows my memory bandwidth max as 800mhz and it says PC3-12800

what does that mean? im also buying 2 more sticks of 4gb does it have to same brand/exact model of the current one i have? @TrigrH

it should say 1066.5 if it worked correctly the CPU-Z reading is HALF the rams speed,

ok @TrigrH it does show 1066.5 but how did you know that?

also why is it only showing half, is there a setting i have to enable?

also would u recommend increasing ram to 16 gb or keep 8?

DDR is double data rate so 2133/2 = 1066.5

oh ok so  if i were to buy  new 2 ram sticks, can i just buy another 2133 mhz from a different brand , does that work?

i have intel 4790k cpu asus z97-k motherboard gtx 970 gfx 8gb memory 1tb HD 1 sound card, 1 network card @TrigrH

You have a good platform, i recommend this:

the same memory if you can afford it, otherwise 2 stick kit will do

250gb ssd

update bios to latest

install windows into the ssd.

meanwhile you can try playing in borderless windowed mode, you will suffer a small performance hit, I personally do it and don't care.
