Damn 4k content.

aadames96

With prime day coming up I really want to get my hands on a new TV. Im upgrading from a 2015 32 inch 1080p Sony TV. The TV itself isnt very good and with some money I have saved up im confident I can afford to get a decent 50 inch 4k tv for my bedroom. My problem is that 4k content seems impossible to get ahold of. Ive got a pretty decent htpc that I currently use for all my media needs, mostly, Twitch, Netflix, YouTube, and occasionally I'll rent a movie from Amazon. The pc has a Core i5 6500 and 16 GBs of ddr4 (yes i know thats overkill, mistakes were made). But it seems like its impossible to play 4k blu rays, without a new kaby lake cpu, or a high end graphics card. Is there something that I'm missing that makes 4k tvs worth the investment. If not what should i do considering 1080p 50 inches are going for almost the same damn price.

either stick with your current tv and keep saving up so you can get a nice 4k tv when there is content everywhere, or take the plunge and enjoy the upscaled 1080p until 4k becomes mainstream

Ryzen 5 3600 stock | 2x16GB C13 3200MHz (AFR) | GTX 760 (Sold the VII)| ASUS Prime X570-P | 6TB WD Gold (128MB Cache, 2017)

Samsung 850 EVO 240 GB

138 is a good number.

That's what people were saying when 4K was new and we're still waiting.  I think for a number of reasons it's just not going to take off... at least for quite a few more years yet.

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

Actually with nVidia latest driver all you need now is a Pascal card (yes its stupid that something like my old Maxwell Titan X is so much superior than a GT 1030 but DRM's every where lol) just buy a GTX 1050 and you'll be able to watch 4k netflix now on.

The only 4k content I use is 4k Youtube (even on a 1080p screen I use 4k youtube though, much higher bitrate served so it looks much better than 1080p YT) and the occasional game my HTPC can run at 4k (like Rocket League or any older games). If you're gonna buy a new TV anyway you might as well get 4k but if you're just getting a new TV for 4k it might not be worth it yet and you might want to wait for it to become more common. If you have a PS4 Pro or Xbox One X then it might also make it worth it but otherwise it's just not worth it yet.

Having issues with a Corsair AIO? Possible fix here:

Spoiler

Are you getting weird fan behavior, speed fluctuations, and/or other issues with Link?

Are you running AIDA64, HWinfo, CAM, or HWmonitor? (ASUS suite & other monitoring software often have the same issue.)

Corsair Link has problems with some monitoring software so you may have to change some settings to get them to work smoothly.

-For AIDA64: First make sure you have the newest update installed, then, go to Preferences>Stability and make sure the "Corsair Link sensor support" box is checked and make sure the "Asetek LC sensor support" box is UNchecked.

-For HWinfo: manually disable all monitoring of the AIO sensors/components.

-For others: Disable any monitoring of Corsair AIO sensors.

That should fix the fan issue for some Corsair AIOs (H80i GT/v2, H110i GTX/H115i, H100i GTX and others made by Asetek). The problem is bad coding in Link that fights for AIO control with other programs. You can test if this worked by setting the fan speed in Link to 100%, if it doesn't fluctuate you are set and can change the curve to whatever. If that doesn't work or you're still having other issues then you probably still have a monitoring software interfering with the AIO/Link communications, find what it is and disable it.

The 1050 will work just fine. Don't expect to game at 4k but for video playback it'll do the job.

If you get the blu-ray player make sure it's one of the few that support UHD discs.

I assume you mean, have I been able to stream at 4K with a Pascal card? Yes. Netflix, Amazon, and YT.

Ah I see what you're talking about. I hadn't read that the Pascal card needed 3GB of RAM. You're right then, the 1050 won't work, you'll need the 1050Ti
