Headset Crackle during voice chat (are mine broken?)

I've owned these Astro a40s for about 4 years now and I think that they are now going out on me.

For about two weeks now I have heard this crackle sound every time someone talks via Steam group voice chat (including myself).

One of my friends in the chat room does has a terrible mic, but I have checked this problem by trying my friends pair and found that this is not the case.

Everything else I use the headphones (TV, Movies, and playing games by myself) the crackle doesn't happen at all.

-Although I have notice a lot of crackle on a recent Linus video about the next gen consoles:

For some reason, the crackle happens when the gameplay (staring at 2:51) is shown and Linus is doing commentary with his mic.

Are my Astros busted?

If it helps I use integrated sound with my msi g43 gaming motherboard using the front audio jacks on a corsair 400r. I use the slitter cables with my Astros as well.

Me thinks they are going, do they have the same issue off other sources?

It does the same thing when I use them on my laptop, and listening to podcasts on my iphone.

They're going, time for a new headphone.

Have you tried spinning the 3.5mm jacks to see if it goes away or gets worse? Kinda sounds like there's a short in a cable, or intermittent connection or something.

There definitely is a short in the cable. I forgot to mention i found it and when i bend it at the spot, the popping/crackling gets worse.
