But I didnt get a clear answer. So its about sleeping. So is the whole "8 hours of sleep is optimal" BS? I think it is. I heard somewhere that it is only a number that is an average based off of asking a bunch of people on how much they sleep

Now I wake up at 5:25 AM. I go to sleep at around 22:30-23:00. So yea I sleep around those 7-6 and a half hours. If I go to sleep earlier and try to get 8 it is just too early for me and usually I just cant sleep for like the last half an hour of my sleep because I guess my body just wants to wake up.

Do you think anything drastic would happen would happen to me, or would I get some performance decreases if I reduced my time of sleep to 6 hours? So that means I would go sleep at 23:30. I dont think 6 is short. I think 5 and a half and less is short and is 6 is OK imo.

I survive off about five hours and a lot of coffee.

I sleep about 6 hours and at times 5. I do not think i have any less performance. I think I am actually more productive because i get extra hours in the morning to do other things.

I get around 5-7 hours of sleep and I would say when I get around 5 hours I feel like a zombie in the morning. There is something about this I saw on YouTube about how hormones affect why you feel tired in the morning etc.

Well, from what I have learned, which could very well be wrong, but I don't think it is, because it makes sense, is that back in the day (200 years ago and further back to forever), people slept in 4 hours segments.

Like, you would sleep 4 hours, wake up for 1 hour, sleep for 4 hours. That 1 hour would usually be used to procreate or contemplate existence. That kind of thing. That's why people tend to wake up at 3AM (give or take 2 hours depending on when you go to sleep).

Everyone is different, however. It's entirely possible that you only need 6 hours of sleep to be fine each day. Other people (like me), require 7 hours minimum, and prefer 8 or even 10 hours. I mean, I can do 4-6, but it just sucks.

I usually sleep for those 8 hours and if I sleep 7 hours or less and I have an exhausting day in front of me, I am really tired in the afternoon, have slower reflexes = worse performance in game. I fell the best in the weekend, when I sleep at least 10 hours.

Personally I get to sleep from 12:30 am to 7:30(7 hours) and I am perfectly fine.

I think it really depends on the person.

My sleep pattern for the past 5 years has been 3am to 6am (sometimes 7am if I feel generous), and that has worked great. I have a lot of things to do in a day, so I've found that 3-4 hours of sleep is optimal—But then again, I've never been much of a sleepy person, and as my body lacks correct control of the body temperature I would be awaken in a severely dehydrated state if I slept for much longer.

Cheers,

Linus

I want to point out that I am unique on the weekends. I stay up for 20 hours, sleep for 12. That's my preferred sleeping schedule.

7h30 is the optimal amount of sleep you should get, but you still take some time to fall asleep so it's rounded up to 8h. Also, sleep is done in cycles, each cycle is 1h30 and waking up in the middle of a cycle is suboptimal, so it's best to sleep 6h instead of 6h45, for example. Sleeping less than 7h30 has negative effects on both your health and your performance, but the younger you are the more you should sleep, so if you're 12 you should be sleeping 9h or even more.

You don't need to sleep 8h straight though, you can sleep just 6h during the night and then sleep 1h30 in the middle of the afternoon. If you divide your sleep throughout the day then you'll be actually more efficient as the cycles are reduced and you'll need less total sleep time, but delays in your schedule will also affect you much more. It's possible to sleep only 2h per day by dividing it in 6 x 20 mins segments, but being late by half an hour will be extremely taxing on your body whereas while sleeping 8h per night you can delay your sleep by several hours without a problem.

Some people require less sleep than others and would be fine with 6h instead of 7h30, but this is rare. If you're not one of those people then sleeping less than 8h will be detrimental to your health even if you don't notice it.
