Is 60oc idle safe?

Hello,

So as you may or may not know, if you have multiple monitors and set one of those monitors to 144hz, your GPU clock speed will no longer idle, mine stays at around 950mhz idle because f this. Obviously this leads to high idle temperatures, my current idle temperature is 60oc.

I was just wondering if these temperatures were safe? Or should I switch back to 60hz when I'm not gaming?

What is it under load? I have a 144hz 1080p monitor, and a 4K hooked up to my card and I sit a 34C idle.

Never really goes past 80oc on load. Do you have a fan curve set for idle though? My fans don't start until it goes past 62oc. I could never really be bothered to set a fan curve.

Yeah my fans do spin a bit on idle.

That's pretty high, but might not be a (serious/big) problem--what's your graphics card?

PALIT GTX 980.

Fans dont start until it gets past 62oc or something like that. I have not set a fan curve to be used on idle. If I do the temps stay at around 30 - 40oc idle, but I'd prefer to not use a fan curve for noise reasons.

unfortunately you cant have it both ways, without the fans running it will be hotter and quiet, with the fans running it will be cooler but louder. 60c idle is fine as most card (like yours) wont kick their fan up until around that temp anyway.

Alright, cool. As long as 60oc is fine, that's okay with me.

Thanks.

Yes that's safe.

And ofc you get a bit high idle temps if you set that fans don't kick in before 60°C.

As long as your GPU doesn't go above 80°C you are more than fine. 85°C is still acceptable.
