Cheap setup for light gaming

2 minutes ago, The Belgian Waffle said:

Hello,

Simple question :

What about this setup for 200€ for light gaming?

Since my laptop motherboard broke because of the heat, I'd like to buy something quite cheap where I could keep gaming on.

https://tweakers.net/pricewatch/473800/asus-k30ad-be018s-(belgisch-model)/specificaties/

Thank you !

What games do you actually play? Because for what I see there, it is hard to imagine games more recent than Half Life 2 running "decent" ..

I don't think so. iGPU and S-series i5 barely can play Minecraft (with mods). At least my slightly more powerful i5 4460.

At minimum settings on a non-1080p display, LOL might even run (bad). But the other two.. really don't think so, at least if you didn't mean the first chapter of each serie

Maybe 60fps High of LoL, 60fps Low-Medium on the others.

Oh well, then for 200€ I guess it's ok. Just don't expect great performance or settings either way, expecially on newer games. :)

You don't really need a GPU for League of Legends .... I played it on a i3 laptop with no dedicated GPU and it still scored 50FPS... On the other hand, a GTX 1050Ti could probably handle most of those games and is relatively cheap. A older-gen i5 processor and a SSD to accompany it

That would probably run good. I just mean that games 2016+ will not run well, at least many of them, at medium settings. You might have to go for the lowest settings. While others might be surprisingly good. For a 200€ complete build, that's surely a deal no doubt, but don't expect a miracle I'm just sayin' that xD

In Belgium, this GPU costs as much as the entire build :D

But will the CPU handle the games? It doesn't look like a quite standard and I wouldn't want to change the motherboard + the cpu in 3 months, since the LGA seems pretty unusual to me

1150. It's standard.

The only thing is that it's a S model which means it has low clocks.

I also found a i7 2600 for 60€ but I should buy another motherboard, so the deal is a bit useless if I have to change half of it, since I won't probably be reselling the parts

That's a great deal. You will get more performance out of that. Pair it with something like a HD 7970 and you will be set.

Oh, well, nvm then. I saw the "FC" before the "LGA 1150", I thought it meant something else

There's no difference. LGA is just the short term for the same socket. Getting a i7 for cheap would be great. The i5 included is really just "ok" and nothing more, while an i7 can still last you for years.

LGA 1150 is not the same as LGA 1155 or 1151.

Update :

Hello everyone. The guy was super cool, so I bought the computer (not because he was cool :P )

I cleaned the machine as much as I could, but since it's a pre-built system, cable management is a mess. I tried to organize it a bit, but yeah :D

Anyway, thanks for the help :)

The GPU is almost cold while idle, but the CPU is at 90°. Will new thermal paste be enough or I should also get something to replace the stock cooler (or case fans, or both?)?
