Ryzen User experience

I'm using the Gigabyte AX 370 Gaming 5.  A bit overkill since I don't plan to use crossfire or sli but it went with my white build and i generally like Gigabyte's BIOS.  As long as you get a B350 board you will be able to overclock.

I'm a student of Architecture,

I do rendering, and heavy 3d modeling in my pc

currently I have a i7 6700k as my cpu

But thinking about shifting to Ryzen.

will it be worth it?

also would like to know from Ryzen users

-Does the cpu over heat?

-is the cpu stable?

-Does it produce errors?

-is it relabel?

-will the quality downgrade over short period?

-and how are you feeling using RYZEN :)?

If you don't use AVX a lot, Ryzen is a big upgrade from your 6700K!

CPU: Intel Core i7-5820K | Motherboard: AsRock X99 Extreme4 | Graphics Card: Gigabyte GTX 1080 G1 Gaming | RAM: 16GB G.Skill Ripjaws4 2133MHz | Storage: 1 x Samsung 860 EVO 1TB | 1 x WD Green 2TB | 1 x WD Blue 500GB | PSU: Corsair RM750x | Case: Phanteks Enthoo Pro (White) | Cooling: Arctic Freezer i32

Mice: Logitech G Pro X Superlight (main), Logitech G Pro Wireless, Razer Viper Ultimate, Zowie S1 Divina Blue, Zowie FK1-B Divina Blue, Logitech G Pro (3366 sensor), Glorious Model O, Razer Viper Mini, Logitech G305, Logitech G502, Logitech G402

I bought a 1700 on the first day, and received on the second. I do have to admit I had some problems in the first two months about stability, when I was using 4X8 DDR4 kingston memory. They pretty much fixed when I took two sticks away. I later moved to a 4X4 configuration with a different version (Savage instead of HyperX) and after the bios update, and now well the system is rock solid everytime. Literally.

I'm using the 1700 at 3,9GHz 24/7, because the rig is always on for gaming, work or mining. While the system is hot because of GPUs, the CPU does not heat, AT ALL, with a Corsair H110i v2 under any load. It can reach 4,0Ghz at 1,425V but I'm stuck at 1,35/1,375@3,9 for durability reasons (don't want to push it too much).

So right now, after months of using it non-stop, I can say it is TOTALLY as stable as a Intel platform. No reason to consider Ryzen a bad product, I am SUPER happy with it and don't plan to change anytime soon. Also, the overclock close the gap with the 1800X and even MUCH more higher priced Intel extreme in optimized workloads or the i7-7700K in gaming.

oh..

thank you so much for your kind reply... :)

what kind of stability issue did you face?

I have a system with an R5 1600, completely stable for over a month now, 0 crashes.

Not overclocked (not really needed atm), the memory does run at 2133Mhz atm, but again, don't really need that extra performance and i'm waiting for the latest AGESA to give OC'ing a shot :P

It's fine, stuff is stable, works very well, performs very well, you will notice the extra cores being there in your case.

If you want my attention, quote meh! D: or just stick an @samcool55 in your post :3

but what's AVX for anyway?

A lot of programs use AVX, H.265 encoding for example is very AVX intensive ;)

Sort of random actually. It could not maintain GPU or RAM overclocks at all. Ram was forced to be at 2133Mhz or it would prevent POST. While GPU couldn't be pushed as hard as today (1411/8800 RX480 flashed) for BSOD while benchmarking or gaming (And it wasn't GPU related, as it is running like that for months now).

But, they got resolved with BIOS updates, so it's an old story. It is really, really stable as of today and the platform is maturing a lot every month.

I've had a good experience on the platform minus the initial teething issues I had setting it up with RAM compatibility issues but thats pretty much resolved now by the Motherboard manufacturers.  CPU itself runs extremely cool no complaints on air cooling even when OCd.  I've used mine to edit videos and game on and have had a great experience thus far and I don't have a super fast RAM kit either.

My two words of advice though would be get a 1700 and if you want the speed just OC it.  For sure it should hit 1800X stock speeds given that they are the same chip.  Then put that money towards a 3200 kit of DDR4.

confused a bit but never mind :D

AVX is just an instruction set that some programs use (most video encoding h265 etc).  Ryzen performs comparatively worse than Intel in programs that use it but its generally ok in every thing else to my knowledge.
