Fan Header in EVGA Board

The fan will only take as much as the motherboard gives it, so 12V

So I am planning my new build, and I decided on using an EVGA X270 FTW K motherboard. However, in the manual it says:

ALL FAN HEADERS HAVE A MAXIMUM POWER LIMIT OF 1 AMP @ 12 VOLTS (12 WATTS) EXCEDING THIS LIMIT WILL CAUSE IRREPARABLE DAMAGE TO THE BOARD. (they did the caps, not me)

 

Now, I had decided on either corsair sp or corsair hd 120mm fans, both of which take 7-13.2v, according to the specs page. I know that maximum output voltage of the fan headers on the board can be edited, between bios and Corsair Link, but upon the first boot, how will the system react? Is the board made to only output up to 12v unless overrode in the bios (in which case I'd be safe), or will the fans try to take 13v, and cause the "irreparable damage" (presumably a broken fan header).

only way you really need to worry about exceeding the 1a limit is by hooking up too many fans.  Check the amperage (a) listing for the particular fans you're using to see how many you can safely plug into a single header.  The bios won't allow you to go above 12v.

 

Example:  .25a max draw fans= 4 or less fans on a single header
